No specific examples of how the applicant demonstrated the descriptor.Inappropriate people writing the references.

Testimonial writer must include two specific descriptions of how the applicant has demonstrated the descriptor in his or her lesson. Observers may refer to the Indicators for examples of actions teachers may take to demonstrate a descriptor. Other actions relevant to demonstrating a descriptor may be included in the testimonial.

  12. Descriptors evidenced by the testimonial: understanding what is required • 3.5Use a range of effective verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to support student understanding, participation, engagement and achievement. • 4.2 Develop with students orderly and workable routines that create an environment where the use of classroom time for learning is maximised. • 4.3 Negotiate and establish with students clear expectations for appropriate student behaviour and consequences for challenging behaviour. 13. Testimonials Non-verbal communication is: • used to repeat the verbal message (e.g. point in a direction while stating directions • often used to accent a verbal message. (e.g. verbal tone indicates the actual meaning of the specific words) • often complement the verbal message but also may contradict. E.g.: a nod reinforces a positive message (among Americans); a “wink” may contradict a stated positive message • used to regulate interactions (non-verbal cues covey when the other person should speak or not speak) • may substitute for the verbal message (especially if it is blocked by noise, interruption, etc) — i.e. gestures (finger to lips to indicate need for quiet), facial expressions (i.e. a nod instead of a yes).
