  2. Daily Schedule • 7:45-7:55 Morning Work • 7:55-8:25 Dolphin Time/Phonics • 8:25-9:10Social Studies • 9:10-9:55Specials • 9:55-10:55Math • 10:55-11:25Lunch • 11:25-11:55 Recess • 11:55-12:40Science • 12:40-1:40Language and Writing • 1:40-2:40Reading

  3. Tardy Policy • Students must be in the classroom at 7:45 • Each Nine Weeks – • 1st tardy – verbal reminder and note home • 2nd tardy – teacher contacts parent • 3rd tardy – recess detention • 4th tardy – after school detention and social worker notified • Each tardy thereafter (for that nine weeks), the student will stay after school for detention from 2:45-3:30pm and the social worker will be notified.

  4. Take Home Folder • Please check the folder daily. • Please initial behavior calendar every week! • Please return appropriate paper work. • In class assignments can be cleaned out daily. • Homework should be returned the following day unless otherwise noted.

  5. Grading Policy • 1st nine weeks: • E – Excellent • 90-100 • S – Satisfactory • 80-89 • N – Needs Improvement • 70-79 • U - Unsatisfactory • 69 or lower • 2nd – 4th nine weeks: • A – 90-100 • B – 80-89 • C – 75-79 • D – 70-74 • F – 69 or lower

  6. Phonics • Systematic Sequential Phonics • Daily phonics program • High-frequency Words • Practice these at home

  7. Language/Writing • Language and Writing are combined as one grade this year. Writing focuses on the actual content of writing while the grammar portion focuses on sentence mechanics. • D-Nealian handwriting is used in first grade.

  8. Reading • We will start reading groups next week. • Flexible Grouping – kids will not always be in the same group. • Based on children’s independent reading ability. • Reading Grade • Reading grade is taken from on grade level work. • We will also work on your child’s level but this work is for practice and will not be graded. • New DRA Testing • DRA is a formative assessment. It will be listed on the report card but is not part of the grade.

  9. Accelerated Reader (AR) • Reading Incentive program using school library books. • Students earn points to receive prizes. • 20 points by May earns SPLASH DAY! • Monthly goals of 1-2 points depending on the month. September 1 point.

  10. Specials Schedule • Monday – P.E. • Tuesday – Art • Wednesday – P.E. • Thursday – P.E. • Friday – Music

  11. Lunch • If you wish to eat lunch with your child feel free to come in and meet us in the cafeteria.

  12. Math • Hands-on learning • Centers/Games to engage student • Pearson Successnet • Making math flashcards and other fun ideas

  13. Afternoon Snack • Healthy Snack Only • Dry cereal • Fruit • Pretzels • No sugary foods • No drinks other than water • Eat about 1:30 everyday

  14. Science • Bringing the world to the classroom. • Hands on experiments and learning. • Unit length depends on topic being studied.

  15. Social Studies • Important people and places. • Connecting with the world around us. • Interactive

  16. Newsletter • Check for all important information. • Spelling list and homework will be on the back. • Will be available on the class website.

  17. Technology • Programs for home use: • Pearson Success Net • Spelling City • Raz-kids • Home Connect • Starfall • Programs for school use: • AR • Successmaker • Waterford
