  1. Coast Guard Partnership in Education20th Anniversary Art Contest • Contest Dates: February 14 – March 31 • Themes: Living Marine Resources Marine Environmental Protection • Categories: Painting and Drawing • Eligibility: K-12th grade students at U.S. Coast Guard Partnership in Education participating schools • Competition: Finalists will be chosen in the following categories by grade levels: K-2nd, 3rd – 6th, 7th – 9th, and 10th – 12th • Awards: District and national winners will be announced in May. Winning art will be displayed at Coast Guard Headquarters and at the Coast Guard Band annual Veterans Day Concert in Washington, DC. Some of these regulations require fishing gear that is less harmful to protected species, like nets that allow turtles to escape (Turtle Excluder Devices) Fishery Enforcement - Domestic Fishing Vessels - Other Law Enforcement/Foreign Fishing Vessels The Coast Guard is also the nation’s first responder to when animals are entangled at-sea, enforcing regulations for marine sanctuaries.   6. Whales sometimes get entangled in fishing line and other ocean debris.

  9. The Coast Guard returns turtles to the ocean once they are recuperated.

  10. Sometimes, Coast Guard aircraft is used to transport animals long distances to ensure their recovery.

  11. The Coast Guard also takes care of the ocean by removing debris that can trap animals and hurt coral reefs.
