The Tuskegee Airmen were the first unit of African American MILITARY aviators in the United States Armed Forces The importance of the Tuskegee Airmen was high for most bomber pilots after seeing what the Red tails could do The Tuskegee Airmen lost none but a few bomber pilots over the course of their service but lots lost their lives. • African Americans were very “segregated” at this time.
