  1. Welcome! CCS/Essential Standards Staff Development #2 As you enter, please grab a snack, and set up your department/grade level display around the perimeter of the room.

  2. CCS/ES Points of Clarification We are planning now so that we may implement the CCS/ES next year. We do not have to “reinvent the wheel”. Use what you have and make it fit. 2 PLCs each month should be spent solely on understanding and transitioning from NCSCOS to CCS/ES. Common assessments are an important part of CCS/ES, but the initial focus for transition should be alignment and pacing guides. Transitioning from NCSCOS to CCS/ES is not optional.

  3. Parking Lot Please write additional questions/comments as they arise in the “Parking Lots” located around the room to be addressed at the end of today’s workshop.

  4. Today’s Workshop • Purpose • To clarify expectations and requirements for successful curriculum transition by June 8, 2012 • To evaluate each other and give suggestions/feedback for improvement • To evaluate progress and figure out the strengths and needs by department/grade level • “Where do we go from here?” • To glean ideas from one another • To empower one another

  5. Activity 1: Gallery Walk • Instructions: • You have 20 minutes to evaluate each department’s display. • Walk around with your department so you can discuss and ask questions. • Each person should have a blue, green, and red dot. • Blue Dot: “I like this! It is a great idea.” • Green Dot: “I hadn’t thought about this. We can use it now!” • Red Dot: “We can use this idea later.”

  6. Let’s Discuss What did you see in the gallery walk that could benefit your department?

  7. Activity 2: On Site PLC Meeting • Points for Discussion: • How did your colleagues evaluate your display? • What questions/needs does your department have about transitioning from NCSCOS to CCS/ES? • What are the responsibilities, how are they being divided between department members, and is it working? • How can we use the pacing guide template to fit our curriculum? • Practice filling out sample template using your own curriculum • Who will be the Wiki staff development representative on October 28 (one per department)?

  8. What to Expect: Wiki Page Final product in the transition phase Working (“living”) document Virtual storage for essential curriculum documents (pacing guides, common assessments, activities, vocabulary, enhancement, etc.).
