  3. I. The Premise of a Noisy Soul A. A noisy soul is a mind that is bombarded with various thoughts which create various sounds; Sound such as: 1. Anxiety, fear, uncertainty 2. Discouragement, despair, pessimism, defeat, self- pity 3. Anger, frustration, hurt, entitlement 4. Bitterness, hatred, contempt, revenge, injustice 5. Lust, greed, obsessions, addictions

  4. I. The Premise of a Noisy Soul Cont. 6. Self imposed demands 7. Competition, comparison, criticism, manipulation, superiority 8. Unresolved sin 9. Entertainment, recreation, adventure 10. Legalism –obedience by constraint, to get what you want, imposing selfish rules on how others are to relate to you, making everyone relate to you by your personal standards and preferences

  5. I. The Premise of a Noisy Soul Cont. B. A noisy soul is the by-product of trying to live a life without God C. A noisy soul is soul that is self-absorbed with its own cares, riches, worries, pleasures D. A noisy soul results in being weary (tired from hard toil) and heavy laden (loaded down)

  6. II. The Prescription for a Noisy Soul v28-v29 A. God’s calls us to Come to Him – Establish a relationship with Christ all who are weary (tired from the hard toil) and heavy laden (loaded down from the noise of our soul, the sin that so easily entangles us) B. God promises to give us rest if we come – to refresh (Peace with God Rom 5:1) C. God calls us to Take His yoke – submit to Him in discipleship D. God call us to Learn from Him – (Two key things) • gentleness – submitting to the rule of God over my life; willing to be ruled by the loving relationship of Christ • humility – willing to make self small, willing to esteem others above myself; willing to live a life devoted to the Kingdom Agenda and not the my personal agenda

  7. Summary: We must learn the Lord’s Nature and out of love seek to relate to Him accordingly; Letting the Mind of the Master be the Master of our Minds

  8. III. The Promise for the Noisy Soul v29-v30 A. We will find rest for our souls – relief from anxiety and trouble (Peace of God Phil. 4:6-9) B. His yoke will be easy – His agenda is made to fit you so that it wont be more than what you can handle; it is well-fitted for you C. His burden will be light – the load He has for you to carry is not burdensome

  9. III. The Promise for the Noisy Soul v29-v30 (Continued) D. The lifestyle and responsibility God teaches, gives, and commands you to walk in will not be burdensome or more than what you can handle. It has been tailor made to fit you. It is well fitted for you
