Project Description (PLAN) KAIZEN Theme: Increasing Arsenic Screened Tube wells in Amda Union in Meherpur Sadar Upazila Current Situation (Sep. 2012) Desired Situation (Dec. 2012) Many tube wells are not arsenic screened More tube wells are arsenic screened KPI: 22% =550/2500 (number of tube wells) KPI : 60% =1500/2500 (number of tube wells) KPI: Number of Arsenic Screened Tube Wells KPI Data Collection : Monthly counting of arsenic screened tube wells
List of the Causes of the Selected Problem Selected Problem: Many tube wells are not arsenic screened in Amda Union.
Root Causes and Required Actions Root Cause 1: Lack of initiatives by concerned Government Dept. because UZ Parishad did not give attention and no demand was placed from concerned UP or citizens. Action(s): -UPHED prepares an integrated program for screening the TWs with UZ, Union Parishad - Involve Concerned NGO will take a program for social mobilization Root Cause 2: UP has no fund for such screening / Program because UZ Parishad did not consider it as priority and UP was irresponsive in ensuring safe water Action(s) : Request UZ Parishad and UP to create/ accumulate a fund for arsenic screening Root Cause 3: No conscious raising & motivational activities because he program was overlooked due to lack of initiative. Action(s) : - Orient UP members on the process of screening and monitoring - Undertake conscious raising activities (drama, folk songs etc.)
