  1. Year One Parent Information Evening General Information 2014

  2. General Information Home bag, reading wallet and Jolly Phonics sound scrapbook need to come to school every day. Please check your child’s home bag each afternoon for communication between school and home. A Year One newsletter is sent home each week and the whole school newsletter goes home generally on a Thursday.

  3. Rosters

  4. Assembly School Assemblies are held on Tuesday mornings for students in Prep to Year Five and the first Tuesday of the month is a Whole School Assembly.

  5. Before School Routines Children arriving at school prior to 8:20am are required to gather in the Junior Basketball Area (Behind Outside School Care Building). When the 8.20am bell rings, children are to take their school bag and place it in the port racks outside their classroom. Children then move to the Junior Tuckshop Area or the Library until the next bell rings. NO CHILDREN ARE ALLOWED TO PLAY AROUND THE CLASSROOMS OR ON THE FORTS BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL

  6. Absences from College If your child is going to be absent, you must contact the College on the absentee hotline. This is a recorded service open 24 hours seven days a week. The number is 3491 4646. For longer absences, a note should be given to the class teacher outlining the reason.

  7. End of School Day Routines If you collect your child after school, please wait in the Junior Tuckshop Area. Children in Year 5 and onwards are to wait for their siblings in the area between the Year One and Two classrooms or where an arrangement has been made with the classroom teacher. Children who get picked up at the roundabout are settled into lines and are then in the care of the teacher on duty. It is very important for parents to refrain from waiting outside classrooms or the Undercover Area between Year One and Two as this may disrupt the classes.

  8. Meetings If you wish to meet with your class teacher, please feel free to email us or phone the school and we will be more than happy to arrange a suitable time to meet. Once teaching/learning commences at 8:40am it is not practical to have our focus taken away from the children in our care. Contact Details:- Mrs Marti Lazaro mlazaro@bne.catholic.edu.au Miss Emma Mclarenemclaren@bne.catholic.edu.au Mrs Sharon Westwood swestwood@bne.catholic.edu.au

  9. We have your child’s best interests in mind and believe strongly in developing and maintaining a close relationship with you. While we believe in a positive working relationship with our parents, concerns may arise at times. Naturally we want to resolve any issues in a professional manner; therefore it is important to firstly meet with your child’s teacher as soon as possible in order to find the best resolution to the situation. Gossip can become harmful and untruths, half-truths and information out of context should be avoided when we’re trying to resolve issues for the benefit of your child. If both parties believe the main focus is achieving the best outcome for the student, we are sure to have a harmonious partnership.

  10. Reporting Report cards are issued at the end of each semester. They are accompanied with a portfolio. We conduct formal interviews at the end of Semester One and we will also be requesting an interview in Week 4 on Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th February. Outside each classroom you will find an Interview Roster where you can indicate the time you would like to meet with your class teacher.

  11. Birthdays We love to celebrate birthdays in the Early Years. You are very welcome to send individual patty cakes to help mark your child’s special day. In the hotter weather, ice-blocks have proven to be a very popular idea. Year One Gold parents please note that we have a child allergic to chocolate so please refrain from sending chocolate cakes.

  12. Healthy Lunches in Year One In Year One we are carrying on the great modelling set in the Prep year and would like the children to continue to bring healthy options for lunch. Please avoid any tins or sharp objects being included in your child’s lunch. We will send home suggestions and websites you can visit with the weekly newsletters.

  13. Munch/Crunch During the first session of the day, the children will be able to consume a small amount of healthy food. Food items for Munch Crunch include fruit, vegetables and cheese. Munch Crunch helps the child’s energy levels to be maintained.

  14. Tuckshop Students in Prep to Year 5 must order their morning tea or lunch through the paper bag ordering system and use the Junior Tuckshop. You are also able to use the Flexi Schools online ordering system. Children are discouraged from sharing their food with others as some children suffer food allergies. Please do not send your child to school with excessive amounts of money.

  15. Star Buddies Star Buddies is a wonderful opportunity for our younger children to build a rapport with the older children at St Eugene. Each child is buddied up with a student from a middle and upper PC class and is involved in activities such as reading, craft and even science experiments. We also do activities with our buddies on special Curriculum Days throughout the year.

  16. Volunteers Outside each Year One room is a Volunteer Roster. If you are interested, please nominate a time where you would like to assist. Some parents’ schedules allow them to come to school and help out in a classroom on a weekly or monthly basis. We will be grateful for any time you can assist us. If it is impractical to help in the classroom due to having younger children and their presence might be distracting to your child and the rest of the class or your work schedule might not allow you to volunteer your time, we don’t want you to feel excluded in any way. We regularly have small jobs which you might like to assist with at home, including book covering, cutting flash cards or sharpening pencils. We value parental involvement in our classrooms and greatly appreciate any time you can afford us.

  17. Thank you for your attendance tonight.
