  1. 11-1 Areas of Parallelograms & Triangles Ms. Andrejko

  2. Vocabulary • Base of parallelogram- can be any side of the parallelogram • Height of parallelogram- the perpendicular distance between any two parallel bases • Base of a triangle- can be any side of the triangle • Height of a triangle- the length of an altitude drawn to a given base

  3. Postulates • P 11.1- The area of a region is the sum of the areas of its non overlapping parts • P 11.2- If two figures are congruent, then they have the same area

  4. Area Formulas • Area of parallelogram • A = bh • Area of Triangle • A = ½ bh

  5. Examples

  7. Examples

  8. Practice

  9. Examples • The height of a parallelogram is 10 feet more than its base. If the area of the parallelogram is 1200 square feet, find its base and height. • The base of a triangle is one half of its height. If the area of the triangle is 196 square millimeters, find its base and height.

  10. Practice • The height of a parallelogram is 5 feet more than its base. If the area of the parallelogram is 204 square feet, find its base and height. • The height of a parallelogram is three times its base. If the area of the parallelogram is 972 square inches, find its base and height.
