  1. Your Are Now Entering Joseph’s Tour of: The Chateau Galliard

  2. But before we begin, some background on the Chateau Galliard. It was built by Richard the Lionheart, who was simultaneously King of England and feudal Duke of Normandy. The castle was expensive to build, but the majority of the work was done in an unusually short time, taking only two years. Construction Started in 1196, In what is now Upper Normany, France, The castle changed hands several times but was eventually captured and held by the French.

  3. The castle was almost unbeatable because it was built 90 meters above the Seine River, for a tactical advantage. The baileys, which were separated by rock-cut ditches, housed the castle's stables, workshops, and storage facilities.” “Château Gaillard consists of three baileys—an inner, a middle, and an outer with the main entrance to the castle. That’s a long walk for someone trying to take over the castle, or maybe just merchant delivering goods. All the Walkways were protected by Towers, that archers would guard. All night and all day. You weren’t getting through unless you were invited. Plus a keep, also called a donjon, in the inner-bailey. That’s my tour of the Chateau Galliard.
