Understanding OSHA: Ensuring Safe and Healthful Working Conditions

The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) was enacted in 1970 to ensure safe working conditions for all employees. By establishing standards and aiding states, OSHA provides the framework for protecting workers from hazardous conditions, including toxic substances and physical dangers. The Act promotes research, education, and training in occupational safety, significantly curbing the impact of environmental destruction and occupational hazards. Amendments to OSHA are regularly introduced, enhancing workplace safety regulations for the benefit of men and women in the workforce.

The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) A national Act to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by establishing standards and assisting the States in their efforts to assure safe and healthful working conditions; by providing for research, information, education, and training in the field of occupational safety and health; and by providing an environment free from recognized hazards, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, heat or cold stress, or unsanitary conditions. • Drafted 1970 • The Amendment years of OSHA started in 1981 with every new amendment being added every two years.
