  6. P3 EYE FORMAT

  7. P3 GEP SCREENING • Two –stage exercise • Identify students with high intellectual potential • Should not enrol in test-preparation activities for the identification exercise • Outcome will be informed through school Briefing on the GEP for parents and children in Nov

  8. E2K MATHEMATICS • Mathematics Enrichment Programme • P4 and P5 high ability students who demonstrate interest and ability in Mathematics • Aims to develop students’ mathematical reasoning skills and deepen their conceptual understanding through an inquiry approach • Use of stories, games and puzzles to pique pupils’ interest and curiosity in problem solving • Use questions to engage pupils in higher order thinking.

  9. E2K MATHEMATICS Selection Criteria • List of high-ability learners given by GE Branch after the P3 Selection Test • Good performance in Mathematics (EOY Math results) • Checklist of characteristics of high-ability learners in to Mathematics

  10. E2K MATHEMATICS • Focus on P4 in 2019 • Extend to P5 in 2020 • 1.5-hr weekly as an after-school enrichment or implement during curriculum time • Students are NOT allowed to bring home any of the E2K worksheets • The E2K materials should NOT be circulated • No homework

  11. IMPORTANT TIPS • Completion of Math question • Encourage child to • do assignment independently

  12. IMPORTANT TIPS • Completion of Math question • Encourage child to • do assignment independently • Use heuristics when necessary • Heuristics includes • Model Drawing • Listing • Draw a diagram • Guess and check • Supposition • Identify a pattern

  13. IMPORTANT TIPS • Completion of Math question • Encourage child to • do assignment independently • Use heuristics when necessary Avoid the use of algebra to solve word problems

  14. IMPORTANT TIPS • Completion of Math question • Encourage child to • do assignment independently • Use heuristics when necessary Avoid the use of algebra to solve word problems Drawing of good models without the use of model ruler

  15. IMPORTANT TIPS • Completion of Math question • Encourage child to • do assignment independently • Use heuristics when necessary • Show all the methods and steps clearly

  16. IMPORTANT TIPS Chris spent $36 on some books and pens. The amount he spent on books was twice that of the amount he spent on pens. How much did Chris spend on the books? Pens $36 Books 3 units = $36 1 unit = $36 ÷ 3 (M1) = $12 2 units = $12 x 2 (M1) = $24 (A1) Answer : $24

  17. IMPORTANT TIPS Chris spent $36 on some books and pens. The amount he spent on books was twice that of the amount he spent on pens. How much did Chris spend on the books? Pens Well-drawn model with clear labelling $36 Books 3 units = $36 1 unit = $36 ÷ 3 (M1) = $12 2 units = $12 x 2 (M1) = $24 (A1) Answer : $24
