    1. The Ultimate Attitude Adjustment Designed by: Mary Lou Gamble

    2. The Work Ethic According to the dictionary, work ethic is the belief that work is morally good. Mary Lous definition: the personal belief system that brings commitment, dedication, and desire to be the best we can be in everything we pursue.

    3. A person with good work ethic will be: Self motivated Enthusiastic Respectful of others A team player Cooperative Open to new ideas Willing to go the extra mile

    4. Why are you here? Have you ever been treated so rudely by someone in a place of business that you wonder why they work there (or how they can escape being fired) because of their negative attitude? You are sitting here viewing this workshop right now because: your best friends are here it is the thing to do there is nothing else going on in your life you feel like you did not have any other choice, *you made the commitment to enrich your mind and pursue a career path that will provide satisfaction in your lifes work * This answer is a predictable response from someone with a strong work ethic. We will spend many years working. Work consumes the majority of our days. We need to enjoy what we do. Life is too short for anything less!

    5. Studying for all these classes is such a drag. Look at the big picture: School will be completed and I will be out in the work force I want to be able to support myself/my family in comfort I want to do something personally rewarding with my life, not just exist I have no idea what I want to do, but I just might find out because of inspiration from one class.

    6. Our attitudes and motivation mostly come from within. Values are instilled from childhood Motivation from someone else is more like nagging Who is responsible if we feel like we are stuck in a rut A positive attitude is a choice we make We get back far more than we give from a generous effort We all need to feel wanted and appreciated Success is measured by personal yardsticks

    7. According to Charles Swindoll, Life is ten percent what happens to us and ninety percent how we react to it. We cannot change our past or how others will respond to us. The one thing we know for sure: WE ARE IN CHARGE OF OUR ATTITUDES!

    8. Positive Attitude = Confidence Our ten positive instincts: Love and friendship To group together The nurturing instinct To touch and be touched The instinct for art To play The love of nature Stimulation Altruism Meaning and purpose When we are able to have these experiences on a regular basis, we feel better about ourselves and our lives in general.

    9. How is your self-image? 1. I relate to others____________________________________. 2. At social gatherings I am ____________________________. 3. People tend to_______________________________ ___me. 4. My personality is_____________________________ _____. 5. I am a _____________________________________ person. 6. At work or school, I am usually_______________________. 7. My co-workers think of me as________________________. 8. My intelligence level is_____________________________. 9. My appearance is__________________________________. Rate each answer as Positive, Negative, or Neutral. If you have more negative or neutral answers than positive ones, you have low self-esteem.

    10. Low self-esteem is not a permanent characteristic. All it takes is effort to change. Begin with a small change: exercise, get a new haircut and keep hair squeaky clean. Act confident and people will see you as confident. The effect will make you feel confident. Begin with a spiral of success. Break down your goal into small steps. Do something you can succeed doing immediately. Have patience and be gentle with yourself. Accept yourself the way you are and then change what you do not like. The change may be in your attitude.

    11. Begin in a new environment, even if it is merely cosmetic changes. Learn a skill. A sense of accomplishment is a great confidence booster Take time to value who you are now. Helping others makes people feel better about themselves. Giving of yourself to a cause you believe in makes you feel fabulous. Care for yourself have a support system.

    12. Some Encouraging News The individual is most important, not his or her behavior in a group. We exist as social beings. We function as whole, complete persons, not a series of parts. We have goals, purposes and values that motivate our behavior. We act according to the way we view the world. We can change the most important factor that affects all aspects of our lives OUR ATTITUDE

    13. Develop a positive attitude be your own best friend. ACCEPTANCE your strengths and weaknesses ENCOURAGEMENT adopt a can do attitude PRAISE take pride in your achievements HELP set realistic goals TIME enjoy the pleasure of your own company TRUST pay attention to your thoughts and feelings; trust your own judgment RESPECT be proud of who you are LOVE learn to love the unique person you are; accept and learn from your mistakes

    14. Characteristics of a Positive Attitude Willing to learn Sincerely interested in others Do your best Consider others viewpoints Demonstrate enthusiasm Good listener Willing to grow Work well with others Welcome changes Sense of humor

    15. At Home Keep each other informed Be punctual Be cheerful Use polite language Be helpful Be patient

    16. On the Job Dependability Pride in work Respect Consideration Knowledge Enthusiasm

    17. Getting It All Together A healthy self-esteem equals a positive attitude You feel: effective, productive, capable, lovable Influences: positive experiences and fulfilling relationships, no single event or person can determine your level of self-esteem, self-esteem develops over time, constantly changing with your experiences Development of high self-esteem: in your social life, at work, at home, at school, in society High self-esteem: accepts new challenges, takes risks, happy, content, pleasant to be around, better performance, adapts to change

    18. A Smile A smile costs nothing, but gives much. It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and none is so poor that he can be made rich by it. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will to business, and is the countersign of friendship. It brings to rest the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and it is Natures best antidote for trouble. Yet, it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.

    19. Do you enjoy life? If you answer is no, begin by making the changes necessary to change your answer starting now!
