  2. What is a Tornado? • A tornado is basically a rotating column that is a mixture of winds rain/thunder storms that reach to the ground level. Tornadoes are terrible storms that can cause tall buildings to fall and cause trees to fall and come from up out of the ground. These type of storms can also pick ups trucks and cars and throw them yards/miles away from their original location.

  3. What are the causes of a Tornado? • Tornadoes usually form when two air masses meet and create instability in the atmosphere. When wind changes direction and gains speed, in the lower atmosphere there forms a mild horizontal spinning effect. When the wind turns horizontal spinning effect into a vertical one it begins to get wider (about 2-6 miles wide) and a tornado forms. So the main cause is high winds and thunderstorms.

  4. Preparing for a tornado before it occurs • Before a tornado hits in someone's area they should have a plan. They should have a safe spot. In case a tornado hits they should have a kit, that has food that could last you up to 3 or 4 days and water. In that kit they should have bandages, and other health needs, they should also have flash light in case of a power outage. Also for lighting issues they should have matches and a candle. Everyone should know where to go and when.

  5. While a tornado is in Progress • When a tornado is in progress people should go to the lowest part of their homes like a basement and hold on to a pipe that is deep into the ground. If people don't have a basement then the should go to a inner part of their apartment or house that has no windows (like a closet or bathroom). If there is anyone that is driving during a tornado then they should get out of the car they should not try to out drive the storm because there is a 50% chance that their car will get lifted up and thrown. They should get out of the car and head for a low lying ground away from power lines and large trees and lay down there.

  6. What should you do if you’re at school? • If there are children are at school while a tornado is in progress the children and teachers should be escorted to the basement. If the school the school does NOT have a basement then they should be escorted a inner room or hallway away from any windows. The teachers and students should then get on their knees and cover their heads with their arms to protect themselves.

  7. The “Tornado Alley” • There is one main place tornadoes happen and that’s called the "Tornado Alley" it is made up of exactly 10 states. The states are Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Iowa all these states make up the "Tornado Alley". In estimation there are about 500 tornadoes there a year.
