Different Types of Syllables • In the English-Language there are about six different types of syllables. • C closed • L consonant le • O open • V vowel consonant e • E magic/silent e • R r-controlled
Closed Syllable • If a syllable ends with a consonant it is considered a “closed” syllable. • This makes the vowel have a short sound because it is “closed in” by a consonant. • Examples: hit, got, met, bed
Open Syllable • If a syllable ends with a single vowel it is considered an “open” syllable. • This makes the vowel to have a long sound because it is not “closed in” by a consonant. • Examples: hi, go, me, be
