  3. Programme Highlights • In 2013 SVHS was named a California Distinguished School. The IB Program was recognized by the State as one of SVHS’s signature practices. • 2013 had the largest number of diploma candidates at SVHS. • Most subjects continue to improve and exceed the world average. • Continuing high pass rates • Curriculum changes to English and Foreign Language in place, with first exams in 2013

  4. Programme Highlights • Introduction of Honors English 2 for 2012-2013 has been successful. • Working to build capacity with teacher training. • Increasing number of staff are becoming IB examiners and one has become an IB author.

  5. Inter-District Transfer Students

  6. IB Finances • After paying for all IB-related expenses and providing additional services to SVHS, the IB program contributes over $50,000 to the school and district. This value jumps to over $181,000 if we consider all IDT’s in IB courses. • It is projected for 2013-2014 that the IB program will contribute nearly $77,000 to the school and district. This jumps to over $324,000 if we consider all IDT’s in IB courses.

  34. 2013-2014 Goals • Conduct a thorough and transparent IB Five-Year Review • Maintain rigorous academic standards and support for all IB students. • Continued use the SVHS Teacher Assistance Fund to support IB teachers in timely assessments and grading • Monitor curricular changes in Math and TOK • Comprehensive review of IB English works

IB Five-Year Review • Similar to a WASC Self-Study • Departmental reviews of Program, Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment are complete • Meta-committee review of P.C.I.A. during Dec-Feb • Focus groups to review Philosophy, Leadership and Organization, and Resources and Support. These include students, parents, staff, admin, district personnel and board members (2/19, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26) • Develop Action Plan • Due June 1, 2014

IB and Common Core • IB standards were selected as one of five benchmarks to compare CCSS against • CCSS standards for practice in ELA and Mathematics are strongly aligned with IB. • IB and CCSS focus on college and career readiness, depth of understanding, analysis, and interdisciplinary teaching and learning • IB schools are already well positioned for transition to CCSS • A K-11 Common Core will enhance the IB Program in grades 11 and 12

IB and Common Core • IB Aims are broader than CCSS in that the IB incorporates international-mindedness and the IB Learner Profile • IB Diploma program assessment objectives are very closely reflected in the CCSS practices • Integrated mathematics in all IB Math courses • www.ibo.org/iba/commoncore for further documentation
