MMU Global Citizens, Global Futures Project • HEA-funded project under the Teaching Development Grants scheme running until January 2014 • Two main objectives: • RESEARCH phase to explore current understandings and expectations of global citizenship education across MMU (staff and students) • IMPLEMENTATION phase to develop and pilot a university-wide initiative for students

MMU International Strategy MMU Corporate Strategy 2012 – 2017: International Strand We will; • Create opportunities for global citizenship • Create a culture that values diversity • Build international strategic partnerships for research, teaching and knowledge transfer • Increase the international student community • Contribute to the development of graduates who are globally employable • Raise the university’s international profile Event Name and Venue

  4. Research Phase Methodology: Mixed approach – qualitative and quantitative • Online Survey (645 students and 140 staff) • Staff Interviews (26 across all faculties, academic, services) • Student Focus Groups (10 groups, cross faculty)

How do MMU students understand the term Global Citizenship? • Students more readily link the term with belonging to the global community (identity) and global issues • Staff more likely to critique the term and link it with personal learning and development Enhancing the student experience through internationalisation and curriculum embedded mobility
