Born at Aspinum on January 3rd of the year 106 B.C. • Moved to Rome at an early age • The orator Crassus taught him the language and literature of Greece, as well as the other branches of education. • Was introduced to the public life of a Roman citizen at the age 16 • Took a complete course of discipline in oratory • At age 17, he served for a couple of months as a soldier in the Marsic war. Greek philosophy and oratory were his main interests. • When he was 30 years old, he held the office quæstor in Sicily. • As quæstor, his job was to oversee Rome’s corn supply. • He discovered the tomb of Archimedes. • Three years after he discovered the tomb of Archimedes, he prosecuted Verres. • At age 40, he became prætor. • He was banished for executing conspirators without trial. • He died at age 63, after attacking Antony. • He died on December 7, 43 B.C. in Italy. The name “Cicero” means “chickpea”. • He was best known for being the best speaker in Rome’s history. • When he was young, he was considered one of the brightest youths in Rome. • As a lawyer, he was famous for accepting difficult cases and winning them. • He made only two good friends, Servius Rufus and Atticus. • He gave one of best court cases Rome had ever heard against Verres. • During his court case against Verres, he was labeled as Rome’s greatest orator of all time. • His hands and head were cut off and nailed to the Rostra of the Forum Romanum.
