  2. Whatis PDQ-Evidence? • PDQ (“pretty darn quick”)-Evidence facilitates rapid access to the best available evidence for decisions about health systems and population health

  3. Itis a version of Epistemonikos databaseforHealthsystems and populationhealthevidence

  4. Epistemonikos is a non-for-profitorganisationbased in Santiago, Chile Ourmissionis“tobringhighqualityinformationclosertohealthdecisionmakingthroughthe use of informationtechnologies”

  5. Whatevidence? Systematicreviews Overviews of reviews High-qualitystructuredsummaries Primarystudiesincluded in systematicreviews

  6. Theproblem: informationoverload

  7. Thechallenge: toseparatethewheatfromthechaff 23,000,000 records only in PubMed • 0,25% are systematicreviews

  8. Ourgoal TO AGGREGATE ALL THE RELEVANT HEALTH EVIDENCE (FOR DECISION-MAKING IN HEALTH SYSTEMS AND POPULATION HEALTH) INTO A SINGLE DATABASE.

  9. A little bit more about PDQ-Evidence: Searchstrategy PDQ-Evidence was developed and is maintained by systematically searching PubMed and other databases for relevant systematic reviews and overviews of reviews.

  10. Where do wesearch • Cochrane database of systematicreviews (CDSR) • Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE) • HealthTechnologyAssessmentDatabase • PubMed • LILACS • SUPPORT Summaries • EPPI-Centre Evidence Library • 3ie SystematicReviews and PolicyBriefs • WHO Database • Campbell Library • SURE policybriefs • EuropeanObservatoryonHealthSystems and Policies • DFID • NICE publichealthguidelines and systematicreviews • Guide toCommunityPreventiveServices • CADTH RxforChange • McMaster Plus KT+ • McMasterHealthForumEvidenceBriefs

  15. Where do wesearch?  20 databases

  16. Relations are stored in thedatabase

  17. Uniquefeature • One of PDQ-Evidence unique features is that it connects systematic reviews and their included studies. • This makes possible to navigate between primary studies and reviews

  18. Multilingual • Spanish • Portuguese • French

  20. Advancedsearch • Forsystematicsearches • E.g.systematicreviews

  21. Grey literature / unpublished • Oursearchprocessimpliessearchingforpublishedliterature And thengoingto: - thelist of studiesincluded in reviews - thelist of reviewsincluded in overviews and policybriefs INDEPENDENT OF- WHERE IS PUBLISHED (OR IF IT IS PUBLISHED AT ALL) - LANGUAGE

  22. Uniquefeature: matrix of evidence • One of PDQ-Evidence unique features is that it connects systematic reviews and their included studies. • This makes possible to navigate between primary studies and reviews, but also allows clustering systematic reviews based on the primary studies they have in common. • The concept of ‘Systematic reviews sharing included studies’ is a proxy of ‘systematic reviews answering a similar question’

  23. Matrix of evidence

  24. How do wefeed PDQ-Evidence? • Combination of machine technology and humancollaboration ~ 10 Software engineers (for 5 years) ~ 400 collaborators (Epistemonikos)

  25. 1 Automaticsearch and upload 2 Selection of actual systematicreviews by a network of collaborators 3 Extraction of thestudiesincluded in thesystematicreview

  26. Thenumbers • 30,000 records • 3,300 systematicreviews

  27. Conclusions • One-stop shop forevidence • Multilingualdatabase • Userfriendly • Relationbetweenarticlesanswering a similar question • Visualisation of ‘alltheevidence’ for a specificquestion
