  2. Tires: Manufacturing • The raw material for tires (isoprene) originally came from trees • During WWII, scientists discovered ways to convert crude oil into isoprene. • Currently, about 26 litres of oil is required to make 1 tire. Home

  3. Tires: Use • As Tires are used, the rubber slowly flakes off over time • Worn down rubber does not decompose • It finds its way into rivers, lakes and streams • Currently there is limited research in the long term effects of rubber pollution Home

  4. Tires: Disposal • 290 million tires are disposed of annually • There is a high risk associated with tire dumps  See Hagersville Tire Fire • Currently there exists multiple uses for recycled tires including; mats in arenas, auto parts, outdoor sports track etc. Home
