  1. SMMS Band 2009-2010 School Year

  2. How to Join Band • I visit the elementary schools in the Spring and allow students to try-out on instruments. Students are assigned instruments on what “fits” them the best. Due to mouth shape, teeth shape, facial muscles, student size, etc. an instrument needs to be suitable for the student in order for them to be successful in band. Sometimes this may not be an instrument the student “wants”, but what is better for the student to be successful in band. Band won’t be much fun if a student is struggling with trying to play the wrong instrument for them.

  3. Meetings • Meetings will be held in the SMMS band room for parents to register their child for band. “City Music” from Brunswick will also be available for students to rent or purchase instruments, books, and accessories.

Each week the students will receive a possible 100 points for participation. Not having the proper equipment (instrument, reed, music, etc.) will result in a zero for that day. • Quizzes, playing tests and concert performances will be averaged in when they are given.

  12. Uniform Policy • All students will wear the SMMS Performance Uniform – black pants, white shirt with a collar, and dark shoes. • Band t-shirts will be sold at the beginning of the year. They are required for some 7th & 8th grade performances and optional for 6th grade students.

  13. SMMS Band Fundraising • All SMMS Band students will have the opportunity to help our program by participating in fundraisers.
