  2. US commitment to the war against the Viet Cong gathered momentum after 1964. American troops poured into South Vietnam and US bombs rained down on the North. North Vietnam mobilised it’s entire population. Total war descended on Vietnam. American total war

  3. By 1960- the DRV, a nation that had been devastated by the First Indochina war had been transformed into a communist state with a programme of far reaching economic and social reforms. HCM was preparing his state for a continuation of the struggle to unite the two Vietnams. By the early 1960’s, North Vietnam was ready to total war. Ho Chi Minh’s changes
