  1. This is a Redneck “Handy Man’s” reference book. Feel free to use any of the ideas.(Click to See Next Slide) Not responsible for fires, flooding, electrocutions, shootings or divorces.

  2. This is a bathroom outlet. Some people believe in those Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters but they take up a lot of space and cost a lot.

  3. A new idea but still needs some refinement. That’s an automotive radiator attached to the floor joists with hot water piped to it. All the pipes and the wood-burning boiler can be constructed of recycled components.

  4. Here, your auto mechanic know how pays off. A radiator hose from a 1945 Pontiac can be used to replace piping leading into the main drain stack. Why pay a plumber when you have all the know how and parts?

  5. Here's another brilliant idea: Keep the supply & return registers close together so the air can flow freely back to the furnace. The house seems a little chilly and the furnace keeps running. This needs more study.

  6. Another good idea: It saves cutting a hole in the roof.

  7. The inspector said something about needing flashing. Flashing—who needs flashing?!?

  8. Here you have your basic downspout planter, with an attractive—and healthy—sword fern contrasting nicely with the red window trim. You, too, can have one of these beautiful planters. Self watering and the lady of the house will love it.

  9. CPVC pipe touching the flue pipe? The fix? Slip some card board between the warm flue pipe and melt-able plastic!

  10. Like lots of light when taking a shower? It’s also handy to have the light switch close by.

  11. FOILED! Cheaper than buying another section. This section of water heater flue pipe is made entirely out of aluminum foil.

  12. Rain gutter capped on both ends? Needs at least one down spout.

  13. Waterfall It’s a good idea to connect all drain pipes before using the bathtub..

  14. Recycle Inexpensive plug for the cleanout.

  15. Homemade Humidifier Why mess with all that high-tech gadgetry in a humidifier? A Cool Whip container filled with water will do the same thing.

  16. Smell a Rat? It’s a good idea to cover all unused knock-outs.

  17. A Plumbing Odyssey If your plumbing job looks like this, you might want to draw a map.

  18. Wreching This might not be the best way to shim between the support post and the beam.

  19. Duct!If you have a broken framing member in your attic, use the all-purpose structural repair kit — duct tape! .

  20. Hot Water Heater Installation It is not recommended to install hot water heaters on their side. Also use a TPR valve. Not a large pressure gauge.

  21. Chimney Installation Be sure to fireproof the siding with a metallic paint. .

  22. RECYCLE Clever idea for recycling that old jockstrap.

  23. Recycle Another excellent example of recycling. Flex duct support in the crawlspace..

  24. Dryer Wire Here is the latest in electrical wiring techniques for dryer hookups. No box required. We recommend a piece of duct tape over the connections.

  25. Another Recycle Opportunity The people at Rubbermaid will be proud of a new-found use for a garbage can lid.

  26. This manual is for the Redneck do-it-yourselfer. Most jobs look better after a few cans of Bud Lite.
