  2. Relative Location of Kenya to Africa Kenya is in the south eastern part of Africa. Its capital is Nairobi. Countries that border it include, Somalia, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, and Ethiopia.

  3. Kenya’s Imports and Exports Exports: $3.76 billion f.o.b. (2007 est.): tea, horticultural products, coffee, petroleum products, fish, cement. Imports: $7.602 billion f.o.b. (2007 est.): machinery and transportation equipment, petroleum products, motor vehicles, iron and steel, resins and plastics.

  5. First Major Event • The Portuguese were the first Europeans to explore the region of current-day Kenya, Vasco da Gama visited Mombasa in 1498.

  6. Second Major Event • The Portuguese invades, slaughters and robs most cities on the East Coast of Africa. Dom Francisco de Almeida arrives with 23 ships and approximately 1500 soldiers. Mombasa is bombed and the occupied by Portuguese troops in 1505.

  7. Third Major Event • Kenya was colonized by Arab traders from the 10th century and by the British in 1895.
