  1. Training on Conservation System Guides and Performance Results System February, 2006

  2. Training Team Developers • Conservation System Guides – A general overview by John Copeland • Understanding and using the new functionality of the Conservation System Guide Application by Phil Smith • Understanding and using the Conservation System Guide Application by Lori Ziehr and Greta Steverson • CSG role in FY2006 performance measures by Keith Rogers and Dan Mullarkey • How to complete a CS physical effects over ride by Greta Steverson and Lori Ziehr. • Future enhancements using the CSG-PRS linked data by Ken Tootle. • Frequently asked questions and answers – A Text document by the team members

  3. Module 4 – Conservation System Guides Role in FY2006 Performance Measurement February 2006

  4. Objectives Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to: • List and Define how National Performance Measures utilize Conservation Systems Guides data • Understand relationships between Reporting Impacts of Conservation System Guides and Progress in PRS

  5. Four Performance Measures are Dependent on CSG’s: • Irrigation Efficiency Improved (Ac-Ft) • Reduction in the Acreage of Cropland Soils Damaged by Erosion (Ac.) • Soil Erosion Reduced (Tons) • Non-federal Land Managed for the Protection and Enhancement of Habitat for Species with Declining Populations (Ac.)

  6. Performance Measurement Calculations and Definitions Links

  7. Cropland Reduction to T or below • Progress towards the Reduction in the Acreage of Cropland Soils Damaged by Erosion performance measure occurs when the System Impact from Sheet & Rill erosion and Wind Erosion is reduced from above T to below T. • When a land unit has multiple practices applied in a fiscal year and has different programs applying the practice, each program that was used to apply a practice on the land unit will receive credit for all the acres in the land unit, . • Land units on which erosion is reduced, but not to T or below, will not counted in this performance measure. This type of progress is captured in the “Soil Erosion Reduced” performance measure.

  8. 3.8 (Baseline) – 2.0 (System Impact) = 1.8 T remaining. T value = 3 T.The System Effect, 1.8 T, is less than T, so this combination of practices would cause the acres in this land unit to be counted toward the performance measure.

  9. Four Resource concerns trigger this performance measure, they are; • Plant Condition – Threatened and Endangered Plant Species • Plant Condition – Declining Species, Species of Concern • Fish and Wildlife – Threatened and Endangered Fish and Wildlife Species • Fish and Wildlife – Declining Species, Species of Concern

  10. PRS Reports and CSG’s

  11. Summary • You should now be able to list the four FY2006 Performance Measures that are CSG dependent. • You should be able to understand the CSG relationship to the PRS Impacts Tab and PRS reporting.

  12. You’ve completed Module 4 – Conservation System Guides Role in FY2006 Performance Measurement
