  3. This course is designed to develop your skills in technical communication and scientific research practices. The technical communication aspect of this course is concerned with sharpening your powers of oral and written persuasion, known to the scientific community as a proposal presentation and writing. The scientific research practices aspect of this course is concerned with teaching you to think like a scientist so you will be able to formulate a hypothesis, design experiments to test the hypothesis, and interpret results.   4. Each student is required to research, write, and present a proposal for an independent research project. If you are planning to take 1051-502 and -503,your proposal is a request to be granted permission to perform one to five credit hours per quarter of research with a faculty advisor in 1051-502 and/or -503.
