  2. What is a goal? • A goal is: • Something we want to achieve • Something to plan for • A purpose • An object or objective • Goals can be: • Simple or complex • Easy or difficult • Short-term or long-term

  3. What is a goal? • Short-term goals are goals that we set for ourselves to achieve in the near future. In the next month I want to lose 5 pounds. • Long-term goals are goals set for further away in time. In the next ten years, I want to buy a house.

Brainstorm (in groups):What are some ways to achieve these goals? • Come to class everyday (as often as you can) • Do your homework and Skills Tutor online • Practice English outside of the classroom • Read the newspaper, magazines or books in English • Listen to American music • Watch TV in English • Speak with English in your neighborhood or at work • Use a website for listening, pronunciation and conversation
