  5. Understanding Cancer -> Cancer is considered as one of the most painful treatment that anyone can go through. Cancer is a state in which there is uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in the body. -> In 2012, there were about 14.09 million new cancer cases in the world; and more than 8 million deaths because of cancer. In India alone there were about 2.6 new million cases in India and about 1.2 million deaths because of the same. -> It is also well known that earlier any cancer is detected the easier and faster is the cure. Certain cancers like skin, breast, mouth, testicles, prostate and rectum can be detected by routine self exam or other screening. However, most cancers are detected only after a tumor or sometime the doctors might stumble upon while examining some other condition.

  6. Fight Against Cancer Determining what causes cancer is complex. Many things are known to increase the risk of cancer and can directly damage genes or combine with existing genetic faults within cells to cause the disease. Viruses, unhealthy dietary habits, smoking, tobacco consumption, alcoholism, obesity, hormonal factors, exposure to smoke and harmful chemicals are proven factors that cause cancer.

  7. Lifestyle Factors -> Advances in early detection and curative therapies have led to an increased number of cancer survivors over the last twenty years. With this population comes the need to evaluate the late and long term effects of cancer treatment and develop recommendations about how to optimally care for these survivors. -> Lifestyle factors (diet, body weight, physical activity, and smoking) have been linked to a higher risk of many medical comorbidities (cardiovascular, metabolic, etc.). There is increasing evidence linking these factors to the risk of developing cancer and likely cancer-related outcomes.

  8. Preventive Tips • Be as lean as possible without becoming underweight. • Be physically active for at least 30 minutes every day. • Avoid sugary drinks, and limit consumption of high-calorie foods, especially those low in fiber and rich in fat or added sugar. • Eat more of a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes (such as beans). • Limit consumption of red meats (including beef, pork, and lamb) and avoid processed meats.

  9. If you drink alcohol, limit your daily intake to two drinks for men and one drink for women. • Limit consumption of salty foods and food processed with salt (sodium). • Don't use supplements to try to protect against cancer. • It's best for mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for up to six months and then add other liquids and foods. • After treatment, cancer survivors should follow the recommendations for cancer prevention
