  2. a voluntary approach • Countries are invited through their national CBD focal points AND • their national CHM focal points- if they have one AND • their EIONET National Biodiversity Focal points – if they are EIONET members • European Information Observation NETwork is coordinated by the EEA

  3. Interest in • Exchanging information on IT platforms used • Exchanging of experiences in national CHM objectives, content organisation, management • Sharing ideas for collaboration between countries- initiate projects

  4. Especially the Toolkit users are reducing costs by • using helpdesk services • prticipating in training courses • giving feedback on functionalities • driving software maintainance and updates • using EEA web hosting services

  5. Implementing CBD decisions • Discuss CHM activities that are meaningful across countries • E.g. indicators for the 2010 target, European wide assessments • Drive the content management for the regional EC-CHM hosted by EEA

Get a copy • Latest stable version, documentation and discussion area on the distribution page: http://biodiversity-chm.eea.europa.eu/ptk • Windows installation package – easy to use if you want to try it out and get accustomed with it on your personal computer • Source distribution (any operating system supported by Python)

  11. Step 1: Download and install Follow the installation instructions from the distribution page

  12. Step 2: Customise the layout • Change site’s title and subtitle • Write some description on the front page • Choose a layout • Change the logos

  13. Step 4: Start adding content • Add links, news, publish a story on front • Show the calendar of events • Fill in your contact data in the “Contact us page”

  14. Step 5: define your community of contributors ... grant them roles on the entire portal or just on certain sections Add users Delegate authority for content contribution and management

  15. Step 6: Tailor syndication • Define your local channels (e.g. latest news, upcoming events) • Define remote channels (or aggregation of them) and show them around the portal

With the EC-CHM Toolkit you can • Mobilise networks of experts through a user-friendly content management system • Raise public awareness by uploading of short films, photos and presentations • Communicate biodiversity by state-of-the-art mapping services using YAHOO backgrounds and Google Earth exports • Prepare for biodiversity reporting by using public content contribution, user discussion forum, public consultation tools, survey tools and syndication • Collaborate in technical and scientific projects with modern web standards • Connect biodiversity databases • open source technologies (NAYA and ZOPE) • easy to extend and customise
