Lectures • Lectures last 1h15, plus some time for questions • Please don’t be shy to ask questions, even if they seem basic to you! • During the lectures and also at the end • Handouts available before each lecture with printout of the presentation • Make notes on your handouts • Take them to the discussion sessions
Discussion Groups • Five discussions groups A, B, C, D, E • Each student is assigned to a group • Lists will be posted during the day • Discussion Leader stays with the same group for the full two weeks • Lecturers are invited to visit the groups • Help answer detailed questions on their courses • Discussion sessions should be driven by questions from the students • Please make note of points that you did not understand in the lectures or other questions that you might have • Make use of the lecture hand-outs in preparing your questions

Organization • Secretariat • Kate Ross (CERN Schools Administrator) will be pleased to help in case of questions or problems or requests • Our secretariat is located near the hotel reception, on the left-hand side of the corridor leading to the hotel bedrooms • School poster is on the door of the secretariat • Schools, Workshops and Conferences are encouraged to have a contact person for any issues of harassment or inappropriate behaviour • Kate is the person to contact in case of issues, although we hope that there will not be any at our School
Internet • There is free wireless internet • See handout that you received when you arrived for password • Only to be used outside of lectures and discussion sessions! • Given the large number of participants we ask you to show restraint in your use of bandwidth! • Avoid uploading/downloading big files, especially at peak times • Make audio rather than video calls with Skype, FaceTime, etc. • Etc.
Please! • Lectures and discussion sessions • Attendance is compulsory • Arrive on time • No laptop computers • No phones or other electronic devices
Lunch and dinner • Service at table • Please come to the restaurant at the indicated time so that service can start promptly • People who indicated special diets in the questionnaire should contact Kate when they arrive at the restaurant for lunch if they are unsure of the arrangements • Drinks included with lunch and dinner • One soft drink per person with each meal • You can get still water from the dispenser in addition • Bar open after dinner • You should pay in cash / by card • No charges on student rooms!
Free time activities • See hand-out that you received when you arrived for details of free-time activities at the hotel including • Swimming pool (indoor and outdoor) • Football and tennis • The centre of Villa General Belgrano is about 30 minutes walk (or 5 minutes by taxi) from the hotel • Shops, money exchange, bars, cervecerias, etc. • Cerveceria “Brunnen” in the town centre is a sponsor and offers a 10% discount if you tell them you are from the Physics School • Please be considerate about noise! • We are happy for you to have fun evenings, but please do so well away from the sleeping areas • We are not the only guests in the hotel
Other issues • Please take note of the guidance given on the handout that you were given on your arrival • Drinking water • You can fill up water bottles from the dispensers free of charge • Mobile phones • International roaming on mobile phones can be extremely expensive depending on your phone contract • E.g. with my French phone • USD 2.50 per minute to make voice calls • USD 17.50 per MB for data • Receiving calls is also charged • You need to pay yourselves for items that are not included in the fee • Should not charge anything to your rooms, pay in cash or with credit card
Afternoon excursion on Saturday • Programme • Leave hotel at 13h00 • Will take a packed lunch with us • Bus to La Cumbrecita • Journey about 1 hour • Free time in the afternoon • Explore the town, shopping, sightseeing, walks to waterfalls, etc. • There are bars, tea rooms, etc. • See Bulletin for link to tourist agency web site • Dinner in restaurant in La Cumbrecita • Back at hotel by about 22h30 • We assume that all students and teachers will come • Please let Kate know at the coffee break this morning if this is not the case! • We need to confirm the numbers for dinner in La Cumbrecita • Note that no dinner is being arranged at the hotel
