  18. ControlCenter 6.0.0 Installation – Custom Setup All component decisions and information entered before any components are installed. Back buttons allow for changes prior to install. Change

  19. Solutions Enabler Additional Changes • MRLK is the only vehicle to load Solutions Enabler into the media repository. No longer have the choice during the install to load it from Solution Enabler CDs. • Solutions Enabler MRLK now includes 64 bit versions for supported ControlCenter platforms • Minimum level required is Solutions Enabler 6.3.0 • SMI provider support will still require an install using the Solutions Enabler install • Only change is URL : //<hostname>/webinstall • NEW License Keys for 6.0.0 • Upgrade will not migrate old License keys Change

  25. ControlCenter 6.0 StorageScope SRM

  26. Flexible Reporting for 6.0 • Integrate StorageScope and StorageScope FLR • Single reporting UI • Single set of agents • Single reporting server • Single reporting data repository • Focus on use case analysis and reporting needs • Provide multiple reporting methods for data analysis, each targeted to a specific user level • Provide summary and detailed capacity metrics for applications, files, directories, storage devices, and arrays with relationships

  27. Flexible Reporting – StorageScope and FLR Novice Expert

  28. New UI Views • Web interface that provides summary level views of capacity utilization • “Drill down” to view details behind summary level statistics • View trending information • UI content and navigation designed around capacity planning and asset management use cases • User can select SRM Views, Reports, or Queries from the navigation menu • Customizable dashboard • “Top 10” lists • Customizable settings and snapshots

  29. Customize Settings Top N Lists Customizable Dashboard Summary Level Stats

  30. SRM Views

  31. View historical trends Data Center view Filter views Drill-down for individual details Individual Managed Object Views

  32. Query Builder • Wizard-based interface for generating ad-hoc reports • Satisfies the majority of customization requirements • Column selection • Custom database joins • Advanced sorting and filtering • Totals and subtotals • Calculated fields • Queries can be modified, copied, and saved • Query output can be exported for additional analysis • Benefits: • Meets 70% of customization needs • SQL expertise not required

  33. StorageScope Database Options

  34. Oracle 10g Options • EMC Supplied • Installed using 6.0 EMC ControlCenter media • No additional Oracle license required • Supported on Windows 2003 only • Can be installed on Single Server Configuration • Can be installed as a Stand-alone Server Configuration • Read-Only • Customer Supplied • Supported on Windows 2003 Server, Solaris 10, Linux • Read/Write – Customer can add tables for their own data • ControlCenter Schema cannot be modified • Naming alternatives are being investigated • One instance per ControlCenter Repository / Environment • Multiple instances may be supported on the same server

  35. Database Installation Locale • Single Server Configuration • Co-located with the ControlCenter Repository, Server, Store • Only suitable for monitoring a very small number of arrays • Does not fit EDS “Small or Small+” environments • Stand-alone Server using EMC Installer • Fits all EDS SSMSv2 configurations • Read-Only – No modifications allowed to STS DSS • 1:1 ControlCenter Repository to STS DSS instance • Customer Owned Oracle 10g • Supported on Windows 2003 Server, Solaris 10, Linux • Read-Write – Customer can add tables for their own data • All support comes from Customer DBAs

  36. SRM Server – Database Sizing • Collecting Summary Information Only • Maximum of 1600 Hosts • Typical data from 5.2 StorageScope • 2 years of trending data retained • Approx 146 GB storage required • StorageScope FLR • Requires the StorageScope FLR License • In depth scan of a small number of Hosts, ~50 • Based on 1.5 million files / host • Performance data still being determined • Data Retention • Daily data for same host, overwrites each day • Daily data from last run is retained for 7 days • Approx 700 GB storage required

  37. Database Processing • Standard Daily Discovery • Assumes all Managed Objects are discovered in 5 hours • Midnight to 5am • Standard Data writes to the Repository via Store • FLR Data writes to SRM Server • Incremental writes to temporary tablespace • ETL Processing • SRM Server pulls data from Repository (Standard) • SRM Server converts temporary tablespace data into final form • Full data merge in to DSS estimated to take ~2.5 hours

  38. ControlCenter 6.0 Support for VMware

  39. Objectives for VMware Management • Discover and manage VMware ESX Server 3.0 hosts • Discover hosts running VMware ESX Server 3.0 • Allow their storage to be managed within ControlCenter. • Basic host information collected and displayed includes: • VMFS • Device • HBA • OS • Console tree and views and StorageScope reports. • The host's HBAs visible in topology view and path details view so that device LUN masking and zoning can be managed within ControlCenter.

  40. Objectives for VMware Management • Accurately report VMware guest capacity as "virtual" • Guest virtual devices identified by ControlCenter as "virtual” • Guests reported as if they were standalone servers • All existing host reporting • Capabilities • Utilization reporting • Historical trending of allocated/accessible capacities • These metrics should be provided for all guest OS logical entities (file systems, volumes, etc.) as well as for raw array devices that have been made directly available to the VM guest OS

  41. What was added for VMware • New VMware ESX agent • Runs on physical Windows platforms only • SOAP over HTTP or HTTPS to VMware API/SDK • TCP/IP to ESX 3.0 server or VirtualCenter 2.0 server • Extension to existing host model • Changes to repository schema • New store plugins to process data

  42. ESX Agent • Installed through agent installation wizard in console • Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 hosts supported • No additional software (CLI/API) required • Ensure enough disk space on host

  43. Agent Installation

  44. Agent Installation

  45. Discovery • Uses ADA dialog • ESX 3.0 Server or VirtualCenter 2.0 Server • Hostname • Username • Password
