Location • West side of IB1, North of the Vertical Magnet Test Facility (VMTF) • This location allows for the future construction of a concrete block structure for accommodating a horizontal test cryostat • Is in close proximity to the existing VMTF Cryogenic piping; may simplify the tie-in to the cryogenic services Vert. SRF Cryostat Cryo Piping East North

  3. Before (June 22) North East

  4. Saw cut concrete slab Pull out the pieces

  5. Dig a 22’ deep, 6’wide shaft

  6. Insert fiberglass liner, refill w/concrete Fiberglass liner Dirt support casing (removed)

  7. A tight squeeze! Pit construction behind curtain East North

  8. Shaft complete (July 5) North East

  9. Civil Construction Complete (August 2) labyrinthine instrumentation trench recessed area vertical pit East North Elsa: “But Mommy, why are you working on a hole?”
