  1. Meet the Parents

  2. Aim • To build a stronger partnership between parents and Sunday School

  3. The Sunday School team • We have a team of about 50 caring & loving teachers and teachers' assistants. Our youngest teacher is 19 years old and oldest are grandmothers • Peter is the Pastor in charge • Running and planning the SS programs with me, are June, Rosalind and Aunty Anna

  4. Calendar of Events • 8 Jun – Church Camp* • 31 Jul – Mission Sunday • 21 Sept – Church Anniversary* • 5 Oct – Children’s Day* • 14 Dec – Graduation Service for P6 • 28 Dec – Promotion Sunday for the rest of the classes *There will be no Sunday School Class and children will join the parents in the service

  5. Sunday School materials • We are currently using Gospel Lights materials and they come with a take home materials for P1-P4. You can use these materials as family devotion. • P5-P6 materials are bible study style and theme based. Hence, there is no take home for them.

  6. Christian Education According to Moses (Deut 6:1-9)- Sharing by Pastor Peter • The process of Christian education (CE) • primarily takes place in the home, i.e. primary responsibility lies with parents. • involves modeling the faith as a way of life – eating, waking, sleeping, walking, and working – all aspects of life or all of life as knowing and experiencing God. • involves seizing every opportunity to tell God’s stories, teach God’s truths, and model the faith

  7. Christian Education According to Moses (Deut 6:1-9)- Sharing by Pastor Peter • involves creativity in our approach and methodology – telling the story, teaching and explaining God’s truths, using symbols (e.g., the Passover, the sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion), observing God’s Word, which means modeling or setting the example in faith (beliefs), speech and actions.

  8. Christian Education According to Moses (Deut 6:1-9) - Sharing by Pastor Peter • Failing to provide a consistent model by parents/teachers/PSPC, will lead to undesired outcome our CE process: confusion or cynicism. • The child is confused when • there is inconsistent behavior of parents/teachers/leaders, between what they were taught and what they observed. • dad and mom are contradicting or not agreeing on Christian beliefs and behavior. • A confused child is an insecure child; unsure and lacking confidence in what he/she does will be accepted/approved.

  9. Christian Education According to Moses (Deut 6:1-9)- Sharing by Pastor Peter • PSPC is full of hypocrites because there are so many inconsistencies in what we profess and what we practice. • Mom and dad always tell me God is important and so worship of God on Sundays is a priority. But when exams are around the corner, I am told to stay away from Sunday School/PLH and stay home to do my revision. • Sunday School tells me worship of God is important, a joy and delight. But it seems that every worship session cannot get by without any scolding or lecture. “Whenever I asked about these inconsistencies, I was told to do what I had been told, not what I had seen!” • The child becomes cynical when he/she interpret the inconsistencies as hypocrisy.

  10. Christian Education According to Moses (Deut 6:1-9)- Sharing by Pastor Peter It is no wonder that children growing up in Christian homes decide to leave PSPC and even Christianity because they perceive these inconsistencies at home and in the church as hypocrisy. Perhaps, they are saying to themselves, “I have had enough of putting up with hypocrites and hypocrisies. I want out!” Physically they leave church and maybe emotionally they leave home as well and remain disengaged and unconnected!

  11. Christian Education According to Moses (Deut 6:1-9)- Sharing by Pastor Peter Therefore the CE process involves bringing up godly parents, teachers, and church leaders, more importantly than just brining up godly children!
