Independent Living Goals • I will not pick on my scabs by playing with a stress ball. • I will look for better prices when shopping like items on clearance • I want to look for an apartment close to CCU or on campus by saving at least $20 a week • I am working on styling my hair every morning • When somebody else is in conversation I will not interrupt them • When I get stressed out I will breathe in and out or take a break
Why am I in the LIFE™ Program? • To be a better listener • Follow instructions • Learn to pay attention • Make eye contract • To have more self-control • Control my emotions • How to keep myself calm • Learn to take my time different tasks • To live on my own • Budget my own money • Know how to get a bank account • Learn about different community resources
Career Related Goals • I am working on how to use different tools like pliers • I am also working on a sort out clothes by season • I making a portfolio to show employers • I am trying to gain a good job by different job experiences
Progress made on Past Personal Goals • Resolved goal April 2012 that I will go to bed early not late by setting a time to go to bed • I made progress in December 2011 instead of getting mad I go for a walk • I resolved goal November 2011 of looking for better prices when shopping like items on clearance • I made progress on styling my hair by using hair spray and brushing it • I made progress on working with new tools by going by taking Stage Craft and working in the shop. • I made progress on sorting clothes at Goodwill with continuous practice • I started on my portfolio by adding my power points, newsletter and biography • I have been gaining work experiences at Theatre of the Republic, the Stage Craft Shop, working at Goodwill and Kimbel Library
Personal Attributes • Smart- I am good at some math, and looking at careers on the internet. I really know how to work on a computer like restart, shutdown and to use the internet. • Outgoing- I like to try new thingslike working for stagecraft class using tools to construct stage props. • Personable- I am very social and I like to meet new people. I have great customer service skills as seen working at Goodwill and interning at Theatre of the Republic.
What I like to do • Watch anime on tv and on the internet • Go feed the ducks on the golf course • Play the games Yu-Gi-Oh and Cardfight Vanguard • Go on the computer • Playing pig-pong with my nephew Jack
What do I Like about being in the LIFE™ Program? • Making new friends • How to use tools in the stagecraft shop • Always learning more about myself • Learned to calm myself down • Get to see interesting plays • How to be a better actress • Attend theatre classes
Career Aspirations: Theatre Tech A Theatre Tech helps on set construction and theatrical carpentry. They also control the light board operations and lighting. In addition, they work with audio and sound system configuration.
First Internship: Kimbel Library • Library Assistant- I worked with books. I checked in and out by using a scanner on patron barcodes at the circulation desk to monitor use of books. I put the newspapers and journals in order by date and year. I greeted people that came in the library.
What Skills I learned at my Internship at Kimbel Library • Organize library materials by date • How to use a scanner to check in and out books • Gained knowledge on good listening skills and professional skills • Alphabetize books and magazines • Greeting customers at the door
Second Internship: Theater Of The Republic • I help with the main costume designer with the costumes for different plays. They may be put in charge of crowd fittings. They initially discuss films with the costume designers. Also organize the transport of costumes to sets or locations. They manage on set staff, standbys and dailies. A costumes assistant must be highly organized and efficient.
Skills I am Learning at Theatre of the Republic • How to spray polish shoes • To put away the costumes • Sweeping the stairs and vacuuming the carpet • Hang up the costumes where they need to be • Organize costume feathers
Career- Related Courses • Acting for the Non-Major- I enjoyed doing trust exercises and acting out monologues • Stage Craft-I enjoyed making new theatre friends, painting sets, using tools like the grinder and learning how to use different props
What Have I Learned this School Year? • More about duties of a theatre tech • Learned about apartments and how to get one • About stresses and how to deal with it • To smooth the wood with a grinder • How to exercise in the pool • I learned about tools like a smoother • Write a cover letter • Created a portfolio on Apojigo.com
What are my Plans for this Summer? • I plan to work more at Goodwill on the weekends and weekdays • Go to House of blues • To be outdoors more • Play sports like basketball, air hockey and football • To go to Magi Quest again
Why Should New Students Join the LIFE Program? • We learn about different career choices • You can make new friends • Eat at Hicks Cafeteria and at Cino Grill • Learn and laugh • Work in the library • Go out and do internships • The mentors help us with our work when we need help and they are also nice • Try new subjects like theatre
