  1. Student Feedback Survey • How to log in and complete your unit and teaching surveys

  2. A couple of points before we start • Your feedback is very important • The teaching survey reports go back to your lecturers and tutors, and the unit reports go back to convenors and to the faculty. It is very important feedback data and it is used in formal processes to improve teaching and units. PROMISE! • Is the survey confidential? • The survey is run by Strategic Planning and Quality which is in the Chancellery and independent of the Faculties. They do not pass on any information which could identify you to any other area of the University. The reports that are provided do not identify individuals and there are no reports where the unit response is under 5.

  3. How to log in and complete your unit and teaching surveys • Log in to My Swinburne In the Swinburne main web site, click on My Swinburne. Once in My Swinburne log in with your student ID and your password. You should get e-mails reminding you that the surveys are open through your Swinburne e-mail.

  4. How to log in and complete your unit and teaching surveys • The My Surveys portlet The My Survey portlet is at the top of the My Swinburne page. The summary tab tells you if you have any surveys available. If you click the link or the teaching tab, it will take you to the SFS.

  5. How to log in and complete your unit and teaching surveys • Set up your surveys Your first task is to select the teachers in your units. Click on the unit name, and it will open a new dialog box listing all the teachers in that unit.

  6. How to log in and complete your unit and teaching surveys • Select your teachers In the Add teacher to Subject click on the names of all teachers for whom you wish to provide feedback. These should be people where you feel that you have experienced enough of their teaching to provide meaningful constructive feedback. Make sure you get this right, because you can’t come back and change it!

  7. How to log in and complete your unit and teaching surveys • Complete your surveys Once you have selected your teachers in a unit, the teacher names will be displayed as live survey links. Simply click on the staff members name to open the survey Completed surveys will be greyed out. If you have made an error in completing your survey (like clicking the wrong boxes etc.) Email us at spqsurveys@swin.edu.au, and we can delete your survey, so you can have another go. Sometimes it is a good idea to copy your comments into a document, just in case.

  8. How to log in and complete your unit and teaching surveys • Part A (Teaching) The survey should have the unit name and code and the appropriate teacher name printed at the top of the form. If this person is not your teacher, select “Not my teacher” in the “…was my” pull down list and skip to Part B (Unit feedback) Don’t fill in Part A for someone who is not your teacher or mention another teacher in your comments! Reports from section A are sent to the teacher named on the form, not to the unit convenor. You are not individually identified in these reports.

  9. How to log in and complete your unit and teaching surveys • Part B (Unit) You should only complete this section ONCE for each unit (even if you have four teachers!). You can provide written comments about any staff member in Part B. Information from Part B goes to the unit convenor.

  10. How to log in and complete your unit and teaching surveys • Submit! You must click on the send button to submit the form, or we won’t receive it. You will know because you will get a confirmation page, and that teacher’s name will be greyed out in the My Surveys portlet. Remember: Your survey responses are confidential! No identifying information is included in reports or passed on to third parties. Try not to identify yourself in your comments unless you are comfortable doing so.
