  2. The scheme of Kendriya Vidyalaya (Central Schools) was approved in November 1962 by the Govt. of India on the recommendations of the Second Central Pay Commission . It was recommended that the Government should develop a scheme to provide uninterrupted education to the wards of transferable Central Govt. employees . PGT(CS) Induction Course

Consequently , Central school Organization was started as a unit of the Ministry of Education (now Ministry of HRD) of the Govt. of India .Initially, 20 regimental Schools, then functioning at places having large concentration of defence personnel, were taken over as Central schools during the academic year 1963-64 . The motto of Kendriya Vidyalaya is taken from Upanishad which outlines the role of our school: हिरण्मयेन पात्रेण सत्यस्यापिहितं मुखम् ।  तत् त्वं पूषन्न् अपावृणु सत्यधर्माय दृष्टये॥ • Which means “सत्य का मुख: एक सुनहरे पात्र से ढका हुआ है । हे परमपिता परमात्मा उस सत्य को उजागर करे ।” The face of Truth is covered by a golden vessel. More About KVS • KendriyaVidyalayaSangathan(KVS) is one of the prestigious educational institution, An Autonomous body under Ministry of HRD, Government of India. • All KendriyaVidyalayas are grouped under 25 Regions and 3 foreign K.V.s come under KVS(HQ). • KendriyaVidyalayas are considered to be a centre of Excellence in the field of secondary and senior secondary education promoting National Integration and a sense of Indianness among Children. • There is a total focus on the all round development of the personality of children. More About KVS • KendriyaVidyalaya was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1860) on 15thDecember 1965 .  It was started in year 1963 with 20 Schools named as Central Schools initially. • Today there are 1,183 KendriyaVidyalayas out of which 1,180 are in India and 3 abroad (at Moscow, Kathmandu & Tehran). (As on 31.03.2018) • A total of 12,27,951 students (as of 31 March 2017) and 42643 employees were on the rolls (as of 31 March 2017). More About KVS • Features of KendriyaVidyalaya System • Common textbooks and bilingual (English & Hindi) medium of instruction for all KendriyaVidyalayas. • All KendriyaVidyalayas are affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education . • All KendriyaVidyalayas are co-educational, composite schools. • Teaching of three languages –English, Hindi & Sanskrit from class VI to VIII is compulsory. In classes IX & X , any two languages out of English, Hindi & Sanskrit can be opted . Sanskrit can also be taken as an elective subject at +2 stage . • Through an ideal and updated methodology, KVS strives to maintain excellence in academic pursuits . • No tuition fee is charged from boys up to class VIII, girls up to XII,SC /ST students, children of KVS employees, children of officers and men of the armed forces killed or disabled during the wars of 1962,1965,1971,1999 and Kargil war against China and Pakistan.   20. BOARD OF GOVERNORS Kendriya Vidyalaya have an effective and well–knit organizational setup. The Board of Governors is the executive body through which the Sangathan discharges its responsibilities to fulfill the objectives set forth in Memorandum of Association . The Board of Governors comprises educationists administrators and member of Parliament. The day-to-day affairs are conducted by an administrative set-up with the commissioner as the Chief Executive officer ,supported by two Addl. Deputy Commissioner ,five Joint Commissioner ,four Deputy Commissioners and other staff members at the Head quarters in New Delhi, besides regional offices . PGT(CS) Induction Course

ACADEMIC ADVISIORY COMMITTEE To advise about the academic and co-curricular programmes of Kendriya Vidyalayas – to help in preparing guidelines for implementation of these programmes –to help Kendriya Vidyalayas realize ,among others, the objectives of the Sangathan ,VIZ.., to develop the Vidyalayas as “ Schools of Excellence “ in the context of the national goals of education –to promote national integration and to review publication programmes and suggest improvements.   23. FINANCE COMMITTEE To scrutinize the accounts and budget estimates of the Sangathan . To consider and make recommendation to the Board for new expenditure on account of major work. To scrutinize re-appropriation statement and audit notes and to review the finances of the Sangathan besides getting concurrent audit conducted. PGT(CS) Induction Course

  24. ADMINISTRATIVE AND ESTABLISHMENT COMMITTEE To advise the Sangathan about the policies to be introduced on the administrative and establishment matters . To prepare guidelines in matters of e-governance ,settlement of grievances and monitoring of other redressal machinery .   25. WORKS COMMITTEE To recommend the work policy of the Sangathan . To consider and approve the work programme . To prescribe norms for issue of administrative approval and expenditure sanction. REGIOINAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE For effective management of all KVs , 25 ROs have been established each headed by an Deputy Commissioner with three Assistant Commissioners, one Administrative Officer, one Finance Officer and supporting staff. These regional offices oversee the working of the KVs coming under their jurisdiction with the help of REGIONAL ADVISORY Committee. The Kendriya Vidyalayas at Kathmandu( Nepal),Moscow (Russia) and Tehran (Iran) are administered directly from the Headquarters. PGT(CS) Induction Course

  27. VIDYALAYA MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE For proper running of the Vidyalaya, its day–to-day Management is entrusted to a Vidyalaya Management Committee , constituted by the Sangathan. These Committees manage the Vidyalayas with funds provided by the Sangathan as well as funds generated locally by the Vidyalaya within the frame –work of the policies laid down by the Sangathan . An Executive Committee which is a core group of a few members of the existing Vidyalaya management Committee , has also been constituted at the Vidyalaya level in all Kendriya Vidyalayas. TENURE OF VIDYALAYA MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The tenure of members of the Management Committee of a Vidyalaya excluding the Chairman and Member Secretary shall be three years, but they shall be eligible for re-nomination. The members of the Management Committee will not normally continue to serve on the Committee beyond two terms of membership. The members/office bearers of the VMC will continue beyond the term of three years till the new committee has been reconstituted. The Commissioner may constitute an ad-hoc Vidyalaya Management Committee for a newly started school for a limited period till regular committee has been constituted . PGT(CS) Induction Course

FUNCTIONS/POWERS OF THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE To exercise control over expenditure in respect of the funds released by the Sangathan for the Vidyalaya, collection in respect of VidyalayaVikasNidhi and other receipts in the ,manner laid down by the Sangathan .This shall include proper custody of funds ,due control over expenditure,ensuring payments to proper persons and parties of correct amount and proper maintenance of accounts . To prepare budget- estimates for the next financial year and sending suggestions in respect of new items of expenditure with justifications therefor. This will include non-recurring items such as buildings ,special repairs ,furniture ,equipment ,etc. To exercise general supervision over the properv running and functioning of the Vidyalaya including maintenance of discipline among students as well as members of the staff ,subject to procedures ,rules and regulations prescribed by the Sangathan. To make recommendations to the Sangathan about additional classes and sections , if any ,to be formed in the Vidyalaya during the forthcoming academic year in order to accommodate children belonging to eligible categories. To make suggestions to the Sangathan for any improvements in academics or other procedure relating to Vidyalaya., including amendments in the prescribed rules and regulations . To assist the Vidyalaya in securing local assistance and co-operation for its better working and growth. To scrutinize and approve the annual report of the Vidyalaya. To discharge such other functions relating to the Vidyalaya as may be prescribed by the Sangathan from time to time. To organiseprogrammes /functions to raise cash contributions from the local community with the specific objective of collecting funds for the improvement of the Vidyalaya. NOTE: Vidyalaya Management Committee shall meet whenever required by its Chairman . It should meet at least three times in a year ordinarily in the school premises . Thesecshould be in the 1st week of August , 1st week of December and 1st week of February. PGT(CS) Induction Course
