  2. Outcomes… Grade C All will be able to describe the similarities between teachings in the bible and human rights laws. Grade B Most will be able to explain why human rights are important to Christians and give examples of Christians and Christian organisations who have worked to improve human rights. Grade A/A* Some will be able to assess if there if any conflict between Christian beliefs and human rights and express an opinion on this. Your GOALS for the end of this lesson are…

  4. The bible and human rights… The basic values and teachings of the Bible are summed up in the TEN COMMANDMENTS (the DECALOGUE) in the book of Exodus and by the teaching of Jesus in THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT in the Gospel of Matthew.

  5. The bible and human rights… Complete the worksheet comparing the Bible to human rights. What are the SIMILARITITES? Are there any DIFFERENCES? Would a Christian object to any of the featured human rights? CONCLUSION: Christian values are at the basis of many of the human rights provisions we have today.

  7. Christians and human rights… Human rights are important to ALL Christians and ALL Christian Churches support the UDHR. You may get asked to explain WHY human rights are important for Christians.

Christians and human rights… Today many Christians think the government should put human rights first – e.g. Spend money on things that benefit society, such as hospitals and schools and care for the poor and elderly. Christians campaign for the government to behave in a good and morally correct way. Christian believe they should be involved in helping establish and protect human rights by helping the poor and suffering, working for world peace and for fairer sharing of the world resources.
