Welcome to the 2013-2014 School Year at Eastern Middle School

We are excited to begin the 2013-2014 school year at Eastern Middle School! Our mission is to create a solid foundation for every student’s success by fostering respectful relationships, providing rigorous instruction, and maintaining high expectations. Led by Principal Casey Crouse, who has 19 years of educational experience, we are committed to ensuring safety, quality instruction, and positive relationships for all stakeholders. Join us in supporting our students’ academic journeys through attendance, communication, and involvement. Together, we can make this school year a success!

  8. Agenda Books • Includes all school policies – also posted on the website • Used to record homework in each class • $5 for replacement books • Parents are encouraged to check the agenda book daily.

  9. School Schedule • First class begins at 7:55AM • 7 Classes • 4 Minutes for Passing • 30 Minutes for Lunch • Dismissal is at 2:40PM • Bell Schedule is in the Agenda Book

  10. Student Academic Progress • Please Check Edline • Grades will be posted by ID number inside/outside each classroom every two weeks. • Interim Reports are posted on Edline at the midway point of each quarter. • Contact the Teacher

Attendance • Doors open at 7:30AM • All students are expected to be in class ready to begin by 7:55AM • Dismissal at 2:40PM • Late • Check in the main office before going to class • Absences • Call the office morning of absence OR Send email to EMSAttendance@mcpsmd.org • Please send note with student upon return

  13. Visiting Eastern • Parents and Guardians are welcome any time / any day Join your student for lunch Sit in on a class • Please sign-in in the main office upon arrival

  14. After-school Activities • Activities Begin September 10 • Sports, Clubs, Academic Support • Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays • Activity Buses are available • Information will be distributed to all students

How Can You Support Your Student’s Success • Support students attendance everyday and on time • Monitor Agenda Book • Quiet Place for Homework • Review Completed Homework • Review academic progress • Communicate concerns with teacher and/or counselor • Monitor behaviors outside of school • Ask a lot of questions • Get to know their friends • Monitor internet usage • Be their PARENT and be our PARTNER
