  2. 1 John : Session Ten We are writing to tell you these things, because this makes us truly happy.. (1:4 CEV) All of you have faith in the Son of God, and I have written to let you know that you have eternal life. (5:13 CEV) Taking 1 John Verse by Verse John's Purpose in Writing this Letter:

  3. 1 John : Session Ten 1 John 3:4-10 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. (5) You know that he appeared to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. (6) No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. (7) Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. (8) Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. (9) No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. (10) By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.

  4. 1 John : Session Eleven Verse 4. Everyone who makes a practice of sinning etc. The very act of sinning is a breaking of law. "Sin is lawlessness”. Verse 5. he appeared to take away sins. Christ came, not only to take away our sins by their remission, but to take away our disposition to sin. Verse 6. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning. No one who abides in Christ is a habitual sinner by nature. (the new nature) Verse 6.b no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.. ”who keeps habitually sinning," that is, sins habitually, gives evidence that he or she has not experimental insight and knowledge of Christ. There is no true fellowship in the Spirit with the Sinless One. Verse 7. let no one deceive you. We are not to be fooled by what those who say they are Christian give lip service to. Though God’s saints are not sinless they do habitually walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh.

  5. 1 John : Session Eleven V.8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil. A sinful life is a proof of the devil's power. Christ came to destroy the works of the devil, and it is his work to destroy sin in all his disciples. V.9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning. The thought is that he does not live a life of sin. The spirit born of God, the new creation, does not sin. But, sometimes God’s saints do submit to the sinful appetites of their flesh. John teaches that if we do sin we have an advocate with the Father. V.9b God’s seed abides in him. The principle of divine life is; "That which is born of the Spirit is spirit." This new nature cannot sin. If we sin, it is because we gave in to the flesh. Flee from sin and seek God’s help. V.10 By this it is evident, etc. John makes clear the distinction between God's children and those of the devil. God's children are full of love and live holy lives. Those not born cannot please God.

  6. 1 John : Session Eleven 1Jn 3:1-10 (CEV) Think how much the Father loves us. He loves us so much that he lets us be called his children, as we truly are. But since the people of this world did not know who Christ is, they don't know who we are. My dear friends, we are already God's children, though what we will be hasn't yet been seen. But we do know that when Christ returns, we will be like him, because we will see him as he truly is. This hope makes us keep ourselves holy, just as Christ is holy. Everyone who sins breaks God's law, because sin is the same as breaking God's law. You know that Christ came to take away sins. He isn't sinful, and people who stay one in their hearts with him won't keep on sinning. If they do keep on sinning, they don't know Christ, and they have never seen him. Children, don't be fooled. Anyone who does right is good, just like Christ himself. Anyone who keeps on sinning belongs to the devil. He has sinned from the beginning, but the Son of God came to destroy all that he has done. God's children cannot keep on being sinful. His life-giving power lives in them and makes them his children, so that they cannot keep on sinning. You can tell God's children from the devil's children, because those who belong to the devil refuse to do right or to love each other.
