  2. 1 John : Session Nine John's Purpose in Writing this Letter: “…we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.” (1:4) "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life." (5:13) Taking 1 John Verse by Verse

  3. 1 John : Session Nine 1John 2:26-29 I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. (27) But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie--just as it has taught you, abide in him. (28) And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. (29) If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.

  4. 1 John : Session Nine - Review of Eight 1Jn 2:26-27 I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. (27) But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie--just as it has taught you, abide in him. I write these things to you, etc. All these words about Anti-Christ; all from 1John 2:18 to the end of the chapter is to put them on their guard against false teachers. The anointing that you received . See 1John 2:20. This anointing is spoken of because it equipped them a means of guarding against the false teachers and seducers. This passage does not teach a continuous revelation, or that we are to be led by the inner light, but that God has given us means of knowing whether men speak the truth.

  5. 1 John : Session Nine 1Jn 2:26-27 I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. (27) But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie--just as it has taught you, abide in him. you have no need that anyone should teach you. There is another fountain of knowledge so that you need not the aid of these opposing teachers. as his anointing teaches you about everything. The anointing is the Holy Spirit in you. It was the promise of Christ that the Spirit should guide you into all truth (John 16:13). Among these gifts are wisdom, knowledge, prophecy, and discerning of spirits. (1Co 13:8). Now we have the Word of God, which the Holy Spirit has given us, and the presence of the Spirit with us to fit us for understanding. The word and the unction still "teach us all things.”

  6. 1 John : Session Nine 1Jn 2:26-27 I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. (27) But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie--just as it has taught you, abide in him. and is true, and is no lie--just as it has taught you. God’s Word is the saints’ ultimate authority in all matters of teaching. We must not add or detract from the authority of God’s Word. Everything that is attributed to the Holy Spirit can be tested by God’s Word. 2Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, (17) that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. abide in him. John is very repetitive. He’s always driving home this fact of spiritual life. YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN!

  7. 1 John : Session Nine 1Jn 2:28-29 And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. (29) If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him. And now, little children. Words of affection calling to God’s offspring. Abide in him. In this instance by continuing in the truth taught of God. If ye know that he is righteous. A life of righteousness shows that we have the life of Christ, and hence is proof that we have been born of him. Ephesians 6:13-17 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. (14) Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, (15) and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. (16) In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; (17) and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

  8. 1 John : Session Nine 1John 2:26-29 (Contemporary English Version) I am writing to warn you about those people who are misleading you. But Christ has blessed you with the Holy Spirit. Now the Spirit stays in you, and you don't need any teachers. The Spirit is truthful and teaches you everything. So stay one in your heart with Christ, just as the Spirit has taught you to do. Children, stay one in your hearts with Christ. Then when he returns, we will have confidence and won't have to hide in shame. You know that Christ always does right and that everyone who does right is a child of God. Let God's saving power be like a helmet, and for a sword use God's message that comes from the Spirit. (Ephesians 6:17 CEV)
