  2. 1 John : Session Twelve John's Purpose in Writing this Letter: “We are writing to tell you these things, because this makes us truly happy..” (1:4 CEV) “All of you have faith in the Son of God, and I have written to let you know that you have eternal life." (5:13 CEV) Taking 1 John Verse by Verse

  3. 1 John : Session Twelve 1 John 3:11-15 (ESV) For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother’s righteous. Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

  4. 1 John : Session Twelve 1John 3:11-13 From the beginning you were told that we must love each other. Don't be like Cain, who belonged to the devil and murdered his own brother. Why did he murder him? He did it because his brother was good, and he was evil. Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. From the beginning you were told. God's charge has always been that we should love each other. Don't be like Cain, who belonged to the devil. Cain, who hated and slew his brother, is an extreme type of children of the devil. This hater and murderer is condemned far more severely in the Scriptures than the disobedient Adam. See Genesis 4:1-12; Jude 1:1-19 Do not be surprised. The children of this world and the Evil One have always hated the children of Light. See Galatians 4:22-31 But just as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now. (Gal 4:29)

  5. 1 John : Session Twelve 1Jn 3:14-15 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. (15) Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. We know that we have passed from death unto life, etc. If our hearts are filled with brotherly love this shows that we are God's children; and the opposite is also true. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer. Has the germs from which murder springs lurking in his heart. Hatred led Cain to murder; so it does many others who sin likewise. No murderer has eternal life. It is impossible for a man to have the spirit of murder in him and yet have eternal life.

Why did he murder him? He did it because his brother was good, and he was evil. My friends, don't be surprised if the people of this world hate you. Our love for each other proves that we have gone from death to life. But if you don't love each other, you are still under the power of death. If you hate each other, you are murderers, and we know that murderers do not have eternal life.
