  2. Action Verbs An action verb tells what someone or something does. There are physical and mental actions. think dance

  3. Being Verbs A being verb shows what someone or something is. They do NOT show action. The stars are bright tonight!

  6. Helping Verbs A verb can have more than one word. A helping verb is a verb added before a main verb to make the meaning clear. The children haveplanted vegetables in the garden. Bunnies arehopping around the garden. They mightscare the bunnies away!

  7. Principle Parts of Verbs The past and past participle of Regular verbs usually end in –d or –ed.

  8. Principle Parts of Verbs • The past and past participle of Irregular verbs are NOT formed by adding –d or –ed to the present tense.

  9. The Simple Present Tense A verb in the simple present tense tells about something that is always true or an action that happens again and again. Our neighbors plant a garden every year. They alwaysgrow delicious vegetables.

  10. Future Tense With Will Mom and Cindy will plant lettuce in their garden. They will water the garden every day. The bunny will nibbleat the lettuce.

  11. Future Tense With Going To My friend and her son aregoing to plant a garden this year. Her son is going to prepare the soil for planting. I am going to purchase beautiful, colorful flowers for them to plant.

  12. Present Progressive Tense A verb in the present progressive tensetells what is happening now. This tense is formed with am, is, or are and the present participle. My friend is sitting in her garden. She and her son are admiring the lovely flowers.

  13. Past Progressive Tense A verb in the Past Progressive Tense tells what was happening in the past. This tense is formed withwas or were and the present participle. The rabbits were hopping in the yard. They were hoping to get a taste of those pretty flowers. My friend’s son was planning to let the dog out!
