  3. Centennial Info • Enrollment = 3130 Students • MYP/IB Enrollment = 496 • Only IB Program Offered at High School level in our district • MYP/IB provides the most rigorous curriculum in high school • Also offer AVID, Puente, AP, Honors, Upward Bound, etc. • Learning Opportunities & Experiences

Preparation for College • IB provides the best preparation for students to prepare for the rigors of University • Time management • Academic Demand • Key cognitive strategies emphasized in the Diploma • Critical thinking skills • Intellectual inquisitiveness • Interpretation or analysis Skills • IB is recognized by leading universities throughout the world for both its commitment to scholastic excellence and developing the student as a global citizen.

What Colleges Want • The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) awards secondary students an IB diploma • Universities and colleges will award credit for certain IB Higher Level examinations completed with a score of 5 or higher. • 30 semester hours of college credit for completed diploma Program. • Colleges may award Scholarships for completion of an IB Diploma

AP vs IB Programs ADVANCED PLACEMENT • National Standards of Excellence • College-level courses •   Students generally take AP exams in areas of strength only. •  More emphasis is placed on multiple-choice questions than the IB exam. •  Its policies are determined by national educators. INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE • International Standards of Excellence • Comprehensive curriculum of college-level work • Students take 6 exams in 6 subject areas required for Diploma. Students must prepare in all academic areas, whether a weak or strong area.  • More emphasis is placed on student essay writing.  • IB policies are determined by international educators • Program components which are not a part of AP: Extended Essay; CAS; Theory of Knowledge course, face-to-face orals in Language A and Language B.

  13. IB STEM • Upon Completion of the IB Diploma, all of our students will have access to the courses necessary to earn the California State Seal of STEM distinction.

  14. ACTION AS SERVICE • In addition to the formal, rigorous academic program that makes Centennial special, there is a strong emphasis placed upon action as service, which dominates the daily routine and lives of our students. Relay for Life 2015
