  1. 5 IMPORTANT FIRE DOOR MAINTENANCE TIPS

  2. Purpose Of Fire Doors In case of a fire emergency, fire doors withhold the smoke and fire from getting spread. It helps in compartmentalize the fire into a specific section. A properly maintained fire door offers extra time to the occupant to evacuate the building. The fire door is an essential component of the passive fire protection system. Fire doors provide ample time to get out of the building.

  3. Regular Inspection Every single fire protection equipment needs to be maintained at regular intervals. Fire door maintenance is a crucial part of the fire safety program. Regular checking will ensure that all the fire protection components are in perfect condition and can withhold the fire during the fire. As per the NFPA rules, every part has a fixed set of time, after which it needs a necessary maintenance check. While inspecting the doors, one must follow the strict guideline.

  4. Fire Door Parts Inspection Fire door inspection is a comprehensive job. It is a legal requirement that only competent and licensed persons must conduct the check. The checking must cover all the parts, including the door panel, hinges, and doorframe. You must check the gap between the frame and door. Further, you must check that all the hinges are fixed properly or not.

  5. Fire Door Operational Check As per NFPA measurements, the gap under the door must not be more than 8mm. Besides, the side gaps should not exceed more than 3mm to 4mm when the door is fully closed. You can check the gaps by placing a one-pound coin as it is 3mm thick. Further, inspect the latching as it ensures that the door gets closed automatically.

  6. Maintain A Fire Door Register Maintaining a fire door register is a good practice. Often buildings have multiple fire doors, and all of them don’t have the same inspection date for fire door maintenance. Hence, for memorizing these dates, it is better to maintain a register. The register will offer you all-inclusive information related to the specification, required components, maintenance dates, fire certificate number, and many more. It will work like a record book.

  7. Fire Door Replacement During the inspection, if you find that the door needs a replacement, then one must act on it at once. Often the certified inspectors do the necessary repairs while inspecting. However, finding the right compatible component for a fire door is also essential. However, all the changes must be recorded for future use.
