What are the Symptoms Behind the Idler Pulley Noise

In a car, all the parts are intricately related to each other for the smooth running of the vehicle. There are some smaller parts which are very crucial to the functioning of the more complex components attached to them. One such part is the idler pulley, which is very important to the functioning of the drive belts on your car. The idler pulley holds the belt in its place ultimately sustaining the entire internal functioning of the car. However, there are various reasons behind an idler pulley making an unusual noise. Go through the slide to know more about the symptoms behind the idler pulley noise.

  2. The engine of your car consists of the drive belts which is used to run various accessories that reconnected to it.

  3. To control the drive belts, every car has an idler pulley used to route the drive belts properly around these accessories.

  4. It can also keep the engine from rotating it smoothly and ultimately sustain the entire internal function of the car.

  5. In most of the modern cars, there is more than one idler pulley is available for the engine.

  6. When the idler pulley for your car worn out or damaged, then you will notice the following types of symptoms in your car.

  7. Visibly worn out the pulley

  8. The first common symptoms of noise behind the idler pulley is the visible worn out or the old pulley.

  9. When the idler pulley constantly spinning with the drive belt will eventually wear out both the components.

  10. It may develop the visible scoring marks and scuffs on the surface of the pulley and at the end of the day it connects with the belt.

  11. Eventually the pully and the belt will wear out and lead to the belt slipping. As a result, it will begin the noise at this point.

  12. Slippage and squealing noise

  13. Due to the worn out of idler pulley may cause slippage issues in your car because it will bind and rub against the engine belt.

  14. As a result, the idler pulley is created squealing sound from the engine belts and eventually worsen the pulley until the pulley is replaced.

  15. In some cases the bad pulley may slip or bind as well as cause the belt to squeal when you start the engine.

  16. If you neglect the squealing noises, then it will wear and damage the other belts and components within the engine.

  17. Damage the bearing of a pulley

  18. Another visible symptoms of idler pulley are the ultimate breaks and damage of the pulley and the belt in altogether.

  19. The bearing of the pulley may wear out to the point of cracking and coming apart from seizing at a time.

  20. It can eventually affect the rotation of the belt and that can lead to some sort of problems like stalling and overheating.

  21. On the top if it, you will even hear a louder squealing noise which will be consistent and annoying to everyone in the car and the surround areas.

  22. Final words

  23. Most of the ideal pulley are eventually require replacement on the majority of the road going especially in high mileage cars.
