  2. The PACS programme in outline Step 1: Get all of the NHS in England onto PACS 129 Trusts in just over 2.5 years. COTS product. Benefits shown to be immediate. RIS is deployed also in some cases. Step 2: Optimise the usage and increase the benefits Central archiving, Record sharing, links to CRS, booking, links to the independent sector, support specialist areas. Step 3: Stabilise the service, ensure ongoing support. Pace of the programme and the service demands mean that All 3 or these have to be done concurrently in 2006/2007. 2 of 14

Programme Highlights Deployments Live During Previous Week • North Middlesex PACS 22/03 • Ealing RIS 22/03 • Barnet & Chase Farm PACS 25/03 • Morecambe Bay RIS 19/03 • Sheffield Teaching RIS 20/03 Deployments to Go Live This Week • Clatterbridge PACS 26/03 • Ealing PACS 26/03 • Stockport RIS 26/03 • Scarborough PACS 02/04 • Leeds Teaching RIS 02/04 • Basildon and Thurrock PACS 27/03 • Homerton University 28/03 • Newham University 30/03 Other Highlights: • The past week has seen two installations in London, which is still on target to complete 100% of installations by the end of March – now only three remain in the region • The board approved PACS image and data sharing requirements on Thursday 22 March, at the first meeting of the newly structured programme board • Work continues on the coming Ministerial visit to celebrate 100% completion in the south • The number of patients with the opportunity to benefit from PACS is estimated to be 35 million, based on SHA populations - This is approximately 74% of people in England, with NHS CFH contributing to 49% of this total. 6 of 14
