ID/MT Smoke Management Program • Program • Manage smoke from prescribed forest and range burning to protect NAAQS • Members include state air regulators, and federal, state, tribal and private land owners/managers • Executive committee is decision-making body • States are divided into airsheds with designated airshed coordinators • Each member pays their share of the program • Operates during the spring, summer, and fall burn seasons

  3. ID/MT Smoke Management Program • Reporting • Burners turn in list of planned burns for calendar year • Notification required day before planned burn • Annual report including accomplished burns • Annual full membership meeting

ID/MT Smoke Management Program • Forecasting Unit • Meteorologist, NWS, and program coordinator work together • Daily wind/temperature profiles collected at designated locations • Real-time air quality data provided by state air regulators • Restrictions based on forecasted meteorology and air quality • Restrictions issued each day by 4 PM • Restrictions issued by elevation or airshed (www.smokemu.org)
