  2. Plan ahead • Decide what you are going to talk about • Decide how you are going to present it

Points to discuss - 10 - 15 minutes • Introduction (Hook/Overview) -- Be sure to introduce yourself along with your general topic. • Research Question - What question are you trying to find the answer to through your research. • Methodology (How did you approach this topic. You may include a previous topic that did not work well and let you to your current topic) --- This is explaining the difference between your first proposal and your second proposal

  4. What’s in your Bibliography • Source selection: What sources were good? What did you throw out? Why? What were you excited to find? • This is the presentation of the process of creating your annotated bibliography. • Be sure this part of your presentation includes at least one primary source and that you point out what that primary source is. • Be sure that this part of your presentation also includes a source with an opposing viewpoint. Please mention what source it is.

  5. Outline • Discussion of results of your research (sources) • This leads you to your thesis statement. • After your thesis statement present your outline -- how will you prove your thesis statement and refute counter arguments. Where are you succeeding/struggling in the outline/research process? • Conclusion

  6. Shape your talk - Every presentation has a flow. What you put inside of that flow is up to you. Climax or Research Results Thesis Statement Middle Background Beginning End

  7. Think about your audience - what do they know/not know? What needs clarification or Further Explanation?-- This is Background Information

  10. Face your FEar The fear of public speaking is the fear of being eaten. Separated from the “herd” makes you more vulnerable. In ancient times a predator would eat you. • This is biological and your heart rate increases. • Breathe deeply, talk slowly, keep water by your side and a pen in your hand. • This can keep you calm and focused. The show must go on!
