  2. JOINING THE NAVY PSYCHOLOGY TEAM • Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences: Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology • Pre-Doctoral Internships • Post-Doc Residency in Clinical Psychology (Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Va.) • Fully Licensed Psychologists

  3. NAVY INTERNSHIPS Two programs – Naval Medical Center, San Diego & National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD NNMC BETHESDA MD

  4. TRAINING PHILOSOPHY • Practitioner-Scholar model • Emphasis on clinical practice and its empirical foundations • Training in a broad range of diagnostic and treatment approaches • Training psychologists who will be able to practice effectively in military or civilian settings

  5. NAVY INTERNSHIPS • APA Accredited • 12-month internship (preceded by 5 week officer orientation in Newport, RI) • Full-time, onsite military and civilian faculty

  6. ROTATIONS Bethesda: • Outpatient • Primary Care/Health Psych Rotation) • Psychological Assessment • Neuropsychology San Diego: • Outpatient (operational clinics, and traditional adult OP) • Inpatient • Health Psychology *Extensive supervision and didactics in both locations

  7. NAVY INTERNSHIPS • Therapy training: • Short Term • Long Term • Group • Interdisciplinary staff (psychology, psychiatry, social work) • Diverse patient population (age, gender, ethnicity, diagnoses)

  8. NAVY INTERNSHIPS • At least 6 hours direct supervision per week • “Open door” policy for supervision/consultation • Operational experiences (aircraft carrier “cruise”; Camp LeJeune/Camp Pendleton visits to observe Marines Corps training)

  9. Benefits of Navy Internships • Excellent Salary:$76,320.00 per year (+5K annual incentive pay for licensed psychologists and 6K for ABPP) (See next slide for details) • Medical and dental care for self and family • Moving expenses paid to/from internship • Ten paid federal holidays

  10. 1st year salary: Lieutenant in Washington, D.C. metro area 2012 rates • Basic Pay/Month: $3771.00 • Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH without dependents): $2348.00* • Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS): $240.00* • Monthly Total: $6360.00 *Non-Taxable
