  10. THE FUTURE OF THE INDICATION GEOGRAPHICAL ’S SYSTEM There are some challenges to deal with: -ProtectionthePDOsand PGIs on the web from the evocation. The italiannationa authority in partnership with Federdoc signed an agreement with the biggest e- commerceplatformsAlibaba and e-bay in order to take down counterfeitedproducts. - Simplification of wine’s web trade, itwould be importantremove the actualtradebarries of directretail sales in order to allow the free competition.

THE FUTURE OF THE INDICATION GEOGRAPHICAL ’S SYSTEM • There are some challenges to deal with: • Definition of a new standard of production in order to promoteEnviromentalSustainability, itwould be important to invest in research and set up new requirements to produce more ethically PDO and PGI wines . • Equalitas: Italian society founded in 2015. Itdefined a standard based on threepillars: environmental, ethical, economical to which companies, territories and productsshouldcomply to be certificatedas“sustainable” by a third party certification body.

  15. Chianti Classico PDO People sayaboutthat… “With eachyearthat I do this job, I come closer to articulating and authenticating a thesisthat I instinctivelyknow to be true. Thatis: There is no greaterItalianwineterritorythanTuscany’s Chianti Classico. No otherregionmatchesitsfluid beauty and elegance, itsvariedsubzones and soils, itshistoricties to indigenous and internationalgrapevarieties, its temperate climate and golden light, or itsnoble pedigree. No otherregionhas the potential or the promise that I see in Chianti Classico. Barolo isItaly’sgreatestwine, but to me, Chianti Classico is the country’sgreatestwineterritory. Indeed, itisamong the top best territories on a world map of wine. “. Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, October31,2018 “Yet a good Chianti Classico isone of the mostsoulfulwines I know. The best have a pure, deepred-cherry flavor, sometimesdeliciouslytart or bittersweet, along with pronouncedfloralaromas and flavors, and an earthyminerality. The acidityisfresh and lively; tanninsshould be discernible, thoughnotoverlychewy — often with what I think of as a dustyquality, focusing the wine and readying the mouth for anothersip.” Eric Asimov, – The New York Times – June 21, 2019

  16. EUROPEAN GI some examples Franciacorta PDO Territory The area knownas Franciacorta lies in the heart of Lombardy, one hour from Milan, bordering Lake Iseo. 19. Franciacorta PDO People sayaboutthat… “Ifthere’swinegemthat’s just waiting to be widelydiscovered, it’s Franciacorta. A world –class metodo classico, or bottle- fermented, sparkler, itboasts pedigree and style, yetremainslargelyunknownoutsideItaly. Only 11% of Franciacorta’sannual production of 17.4 milionbottlesisexportedaround the globe. Thatpercentageispoised to increase, however, as the denominationcontinues to distinguishitself from othertraditionallycraftedsparklingwines. For years, Franciacorta hasbeencompared to Champagne, because the twowines use the same –bottlefermentationmethod and primarygrapevarietes – but the comparisons end there. The best Franciacorta havetheirownidentity. A combination of avant –gardewinemakers, a growing focus on organic viticulture, the reduction (or elimination) of dosage and promisingexperiments with a recentlyrevived native grapehasyieldedstunning, terroir –drivensparklersthatshould be on everywinelover’s radar.” KerinO’Keefe. – Wine Enthusiastic.
